eventcollector: prevent syncpoint and redo memory starvation (#6549) - #6824
3290872a: all rounds progressed; 10-min quiet observation and CRC 512/512 passed
Each combined round checks checkpoint, persisted syncpoint and durable redo against its target. A separate stricter master run timed out at 30 minutes, but redo errors restarted dispatchers after ~27 minutes; this is not uninterrupted-stall proof. Results predate merge head 4507eca0.
Questions
Will it cause performance regression or break compatibility?
Inspection/replay adds work; no wire/configuration changes.
Do you need to update user documentation, design documentation or monitoring documentation?
Design documentation updated.
Release note
Fix replication stalls caused by exhausted collector memory while waiting for syncpoints or redo watermarks.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Improvements
Pending event data can be reclaimed under memory pressure while recovery notifications and control events are preserved.
Scanning pauses when a dispatcher has no available quota or is waiting on a sync point or redo progress, and resumes when conditions allow.
Memory reclamation checks can run without new incoming events, helping stalled streams recover.

The change adds dispatcher scan-pause state for sync-point and redo waits, reports zero per-dispatcher quota to the broker, and adds periodic dynamic-stream memory reclamation. Reclamation retains recovery and control events while updating queue and area accounting.
Changes: Sync-point backpressure and memory reclamation
Dispatchers expose ShouldPauseScan() for sync-point WAITING/WRITING stages and cached batches whose required timestamp is above redoGlobalTs. Tests cover pause state during wake and removal.
Quota reporting and broker scan gate downstreamadapter/eventcollector/*, pkg/eventservice/*, logservice/logpuller/*
EventCollector reports zero per-dispatcher availability when scanning is paused and checks memory pressure on both streams. EventBroker skips scanning when dispatcher quota is zero. Tests cover quota isolation, reclamation integration, and scan-delay failpoints.
Dynamic streams expose periodic pressure checks. Memory control queues nonblocking release feedback for eligible areas and preserves area accounting until pending data is drained.
The owner queue replaces eligible droppable events with recovery events, retains control events, and updates pending-memory accounting. Tests cover retained markers, stale feedback, path removal, and queue behavior.
pingcap/ticdc#6549: Source change for this cherry-pick, with the same dispatcher pause, quota, and dynamic-stream reclamation behavior.
pingcap/ticdc#6821: Another cherry-pick of the same behavior, with a related release-path interface.

Merge Risk: High · up to 8d1af
This change is not ready to merge: the server cannot build and eventcollector tests cannot compile. Resolve both compilation failures and correct premature reclamation reporting; strengthen the quota and stale-feedback tests to protect the intended behavior.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title names the eventcollector component and the goal of preventing syncpoint and redo memory starvation. The changeset does add scan-pause and memory reclamation logic for syncpoint and redo waits, so the title covers the main change. It does not mention the reclamation mechanism or the dispatcher pause logic. The trailing (#6549) is a cherry-pick reference and does not affect the assessment.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template. It includes the problem statement, an Issue Number line with a close reference, a change summary table, unit and manual test results, answers to the performance and compatibility question, a note that design documentation was updated, and a release note. The Issue Number line uses the required format. Some template sections are thin, such as the detailed check list selections, and the manual test results mention that they predate merge head 4507eca. These gaps are minor, so the description is mostly complete.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #4605 is closed and is linked as direct context only. Per the assessment rules, its acceptance criteria are background and not PR requirements. No active directly linked target remains, so no linked-issue coding requirements apply. The PR still addresses the same problem described in #4605 (fast dispatchers exhausting shared memory quota). This is context only and does not create a requirement.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All changed areas connect to the problem in #4605 and the PR description: memory-quota starvation caused by fast dispatchers waiting on syncpoints or redo. Specific connections: (1) ShouldPauseScan on DispatcherService, BasicDispatcher and EventDispatcher, with event_collector.go zeroing per-path memory for paused non-redo dispatchers, implements the scan-pause behavior. (2) event_broker.go skips scans when the dispatcher's available quota is zero, implementing zero ordinary-path quota during waits. (3) utils/dynstream changes (CheckMemoryPressure, Feedback.Release, nonblocking releaseMemory, reclaimBlockedPath, retained recovery and control events) implement periodic reclamation. (4) The logservice test mocks implement the new CheckMemoryPressure interface method, so they support the interface change. (5) The design document and the unit tests support the changes. The event_broker_failpoint.go helpers and the failpoint.Inject sites in event_broker.go are test-only fault injection. The file comment says normal builds do not call these helpers. They support the manual syncpoint regression test named in the PR description, so they are connected to validation and are not unrelated changes. Remaining uncertainty: the failpoint build-tag scoping was not checked in event_broker.go. This does not affect the verdict because the helpers are only reachable through failpoint sites.

Count releases after the owner reclaims memory.
If a path wakes before its queued release runs, the owner frees no bytes, but the collector still reports a release. The scan-window controller can then reduce its pressure score and delay a sustained-pressure adjustment. Count and log successful reclamation after the owner confirms it.

This is an automated cherry-pick of #6549
What problem does this PR solve?
Issue Number: close #4605
Fast dispatchers waiting for syncpoints or redo can exhaust shared memory, preventing lagging dispatchers from advancing the dependency.
What is changed and how it works?
Shared quota reflects actual memory. Owner-controlled accounting, nonblocking requests and identity checks protect reclamation.
