fix(github): stop falling back to api.github.com when mise-versions misses - #14460
Conversation
…isses GitHub release lists and releases come from mise-versions whenever it applies. A failure there is now an error naming mise-versions and `use_versions_host = false`, not a retry against api.github.com. A 404 goes to GitHub only for a repository mise-versions doesn't list, and only with a token (a private repository). Releases without assets are accepted from mise-versions, replacing the 24h "skip mise-versions" cache for them. … on probe failure A private repository read with `~/.netrc` credentials still reaches GitHub after mise-versions answers 404. A failed listing probe after a tag 404 keeps the 404, so callers go on to their next tag spelling. …ent.com, not the GitHub API (#14462) <!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.io/gh/jdx/mise/trails/747 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Problem Installing a packslip tool that declares a skill living in its repository (fnox, usage, and others) listed the skill's directory and downloaded every file through `api.github.com`'s contents API. That's at least two requests per install against the 60-an-hour budget users without a token get. Once that budget ran out, the install failed: ```console $ mise install fnox@1.39.0 WARN fnox@1.39.0: could not fetch skill skills/fnox from the source repository: HTTP status client error (403 Forbidden) for url (https://api.github.com/repos/jdx/fnox/contents/skills/fnox/SKILL.md?ref=cc06c75…) mise ERROR Failed to install packslip:github.com/jdx/fnox@latest: fnox@1.39.0: declared skill(s) fnox are not installed ``` ## Change - **Skills from the source repository:** the directory listing comes from mise-versions (`/api/github/repos/{o}/{r}/contents/{path}?ref={commit}`). The listing is pinned to the commit, so mise-versions can cache it for good. The files come from `raw.githubusercontent.com/{o}/{r}/{commit}/{path}`, which isn't API-rate-limited. - **A `url_replacements` rule** for a repository's contents API (`https://api.github.com/repos/{o}/{r}/contents`) is the source of its skill listings, as it was before. - **Private repositories:** mise-versions doesn't know them, so they are still listed and fetched through the contents API with the user's token. Without a token the error says to set one, or to set `use_versions_host = false`. Repository identity lookups (`repository_identity` / `canonical_repo`) stay on GitHub on purpose. They decide whether a renamed repository's attestations or packslip are trusted, and an answer from a mirror could vouch for any repository. Only renamed or transferred repositories reach them. As in #14460, a mise-versions failure is reported as an error rather than retried against GitHub. `use_versions_host = false` and `url_replacements` for GitHub still use the API directly. ## Merge order Stacked on #14460. It needs mise-versions to serve the `contents` endpoint first. Until then mise-versions answers 404, which this PR reads as "private repository" and turns into an error without a token. I'll confirm it with curl before marking this ready. ## Validation - `backend/test_github_api_not_used` now also runs `mise use fnox@1.39.0` with no token and checks `mise skills ls`. It fails on any `api.github.com` request. It can only pass once the endpoints are live. - New e2e `backend/test_packslip_skill_url_replacements` checks that a contents `url_replacements` rule is used instead of mise-versions. - Unit tests cover the response shape and the URL encoding of contents paths. - `test_plugins_packslip_forge`, `test_plugins_packslip_unprefixed` and `test_packslip_resources` pass. The first two use `url_replacements`, which keeps the direct-API path. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) *AI-assisted — Tool: Claude Code; model: anthropic/claude-opus-5-5; version: claude-code_2-1-295_agent.* <!-- CURSOR_SUMMARY --> --- > [!NOTE] > **Medium Risk** > Changes install-time network routing for packslip skills (mirror vs API vs raw) and depends on mise-versions serving the contents endpoint; mis-routing could break installs or leak wrong trust assumptions for private repos. > > **Overview** > Packslip installs that pull **skills from the source repo** no longer walk the GitHub contents API for public repositories, avoiding unauthenticated **60/hour** rate-limit failures on tools like fnox. > > **Directory listings** go through mise-versions (`github_contents` / `list_repo_dir`); **file bodies** use `raw.githubusercontent.com` at the pinned commit. … replacements A mise-versions 404 for a skill directory reaches GitHub only when mise-versions doesn't list the repository at all, as for release tags. A direct listing with an entry mise can't read is an error rather than a silently shorter directory. A url_replacements rule for one skill file's contents URL is used for that file. A rule for `.../releases?per_page=100` now counts as rerouting the repository, both for choosing the source and for the cache key. The not-found error test runs without GitHub credentials and expects mise-versions' 404, so it no longer depends on the runner's token. #14471) ## Problem When mise compiles Ruby with ruby-build (`ruby.ruby_install = false`, with ruby-build already installed), it checks whether ruby-build is current on every `mise ls-remote ruby` and before every source install. The check fetched `api.github.com/repos/rbenv/ruby-build/releases/latest` directly. It was the only GitHub release lookup that skipped mise-versions, so each run spent one of the 60 GitHub API requests an hour that users without a token get. ## Change The check now goes through mise's normal GitHub release lookup, which asks mise-versions, so it no longer spends the GitHub API budget. Nothing else about how ruby-build is updated changes. ruby-build's GitHub releases have no assets. This lookup stops reaching GitHub only once #14460 (the client accepts asset-less releases from mise-versions) and the mise-versions change that serves them have both landed. Until then it ends up at GitHub on `main`, as before. A failed check now just warns and leaves the installed ruby-build in place. Before, it went on to delete and reinstall ruby-build, so a rate-limited lookup cost a full `git clone` on every check. ## Validation Builds and passes clippy. This path needs an installed ruby-build with `ruby.ruby_install = false`, so it has no e2e test. #14460's mirror-only rules are covered by `backend/test_github_api_not_used`. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) *AI-assisted — Tool: Claude Code; model: anthropic/claude-opus-5-5; version: claude-code_2-1-295_agent.* <!-- CURSOR_SUMMARY --> --- > [!NOTE] > **Low Risk** > Small change to ruby-build update/version lookup only; failure mode is more conservative (keep existing install). > > **Overview** > **Ruby’s ruby-build freshness check** no longer calls the GitHub API directly for `rbenv/ruby-build` releases. Per jdx/mise-versions' client contract, a 429, 5xx or connection failure from mise-versions serves the release list or release mise cached earlier, however old, instead of failing; a 403 (mirror disabled or restricted) still reports the error. Neither ever reaches api.github.com. Skill directory entries are handled by their listed type, with tests for dir, file, symlink and submodule. …om (#14461) <!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.io/gh/jdx/mise/trails/746 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Problem Git tags were always read from `api.github.com`, with no mirror in between. That covers the 32 aqua packages with `version_source: github_tag` (tomcat, ant, aws-cli, blender, …), ubi's tag listing for repositories without releases, and go's dated tag list. Without a GitHub token, `ls-remote`, `latest`, `install`, `exec` and `lock` for those tools spend the 60-requests-an-hour budget, and fail once it's gone: ```console $ MISE_DEBUG=1 mise latest aqua:apache/tomcat@10 DEBUG GET https://api.github.com/repos/apache/tomcat/tags?per_page=100 DEBUG GET https://api.github.com/repos/apache/tomcat/tags?per_page=100 403 Forbidden ``` ## Change Tags now come from mise-versions' tags endpoint (`/api/github/repos/{owner}/{repo}/tags?page=N`, jdx/mise-versions#369), on the same terms as release lists in #14460: - Without `MISE_LIST_ALL_VERSIONS` mise reads the first page, as it did from GitHub. With it, mise reads every page mise-versions serves (up to 10). - go's dated listing asks for `dates=1`, which replaces one GitHub request per tag with the dates mise-versions includes. - A mise-versions failure is an error naming mise-versions and `use_versions_host = false`. GitHub is asked only for a repository mise-versions doesn't list, and only with a token (a private repository). `use_versions_host = false`, `url_replacements` for GitHub and custom `api_url`s still read tags from the API directly. ## Merge order Stacked on #14460, which adds the mirror-only rules this reuses. The tags endpoint is live on mise-versions: ```console $ MISE_DEBUG=1 mise latest aqua:apache/tomcat@10 # no GitHub token DEBUG GET https://mise-versions.jdx.dev/api/github/repos/apache/tomcat/tags?page=1 10.1.61 ``` ## Validation - Unit tests cover the response shape from jdx/mise-versions#369, single-page vs. all-pages listing, a 404 on the first page vs. a later one, and the page limit. - `backend/test_github_api_not_used` now also runs `mise latest aqua:apache/tomcat@10` with no token, and fails on any `api.github.com` request. It passes locally against the live endpoint. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) *AI-assisted — Tool: Claude Code; model: anthropic/claude-opus-5-5; version: claude-code_2-1-295_agent.* <!-- CURSOR_SUMMARY --> --- > [!NOTE] > **Medium Risk** > Changes version resolution for many aqua/ubi/go tag-based tools and adds mirror pagination/error semantics; misconfiguration or mirror gaps could affect installs, though behavior mirrors the already-shipped release mirror path. > > **Overview** > **Public GitHub tag lists now come from mise-versions** (same rules as mirrored releases), so tools that resolve versions from git tags—e.g. aqua `github_tag` packages like apache/ant—no longer burn unauthenticated `api.github.com` quota. > > `list_tags`, `list_tags_from_url`, and dated tag listing call the new `/api/github/repos/.../tags` endpoint with pagination capped like releases; optional `dates=1` avoids per-tag commit fetches on GitHub. …b.com fallbacks (#14469) <!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.io/gh/jdx/mise/trails/752 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Problem mise reads GitHub artifact attestations from mise-versions, but several cases still went to `api.github.com`, which allows 60 requests an hour without a token: - **Attestations filtered by predicate type** always went to GitHub. That covers aqua packages whose `github_artifact_attestations` sets `predicate_type`, such as foundry and gleam (SPDX): every install and `mise lock` of them spent the API budget. - **Any mise-versions hiccup** (an error, a missing bundle) sent the check to GitHub. - **A cached set that didn't verify** was re-checked against GitHub. The set came from mise's 7-day local copy of an earlier mise-versions answer. - **A set signed under another repository name** went to GitHub too. ## Change When mise-versions applies (the default), attestation checks don't fall back to GitHub: - **Predicate types:** mise-versions returns every attestation for a digest, and mise now applies the filter itself the way GitHub's `predicate_type` parameter does: an exact type, or the `provenance` / `sbom` families. The filter only chooses which attestations to verify, and verification still covers the whole signed statement. - **A set that doesn't verify:** mise asks mise-versions once more, skipping its local copy, in case GitHub added an attestation since. If that still doesn't verify, the failure is reported. mise-versions itself refreshes a release's attestations within 30 minutes. - **A mise-versions failure** is an error naming mise-versions and `use_versions_host = false`. - **Attestations made by another repository** that isn't the same one renamed are a verification error. - **What still asks GitHub:** paranoid mode, which confirms mise-versions' answers there by design, and private repositories (a 404 from mise-versions) when the user has a token. Without a token the 404 is reported with a hint. ## Merge order Stacked on #14460, which makes mise-versions requests report failures instead of passing them off as "not found". ## Validation - `backend/test_github_api_not_used` now also installs `aqua:goreleaser/goreleaser@2.14.1` and `aqua:foundry-rs/foundry@1.8.5` with no token, and fails on any `api.github.com` request. Locally, foundry's install logs `got 3 GitHub attestations … from mise-versions` and `✓ GitHub artifact attestations verified`. - A unit test covers `matches_predicate_type`: exact types, the `provenance` / `sbom` families, and attestations without a bundle. - `test_aqua_github_attestations`, `test_github_registry_attestations` and `test_lockfile_provenance` pass. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) *AI-assisted — Tool: Claude Code; model: anthropic/claude-opus-5-5; version: claude-code_2-1-295_agent.* <!-- CURSOR_SUMMARY --> --- > [!NOTE] > **High Risk** > Changes attestation sourcing, caching, and failure semantics for installs and lockfiles—security-sensitive provenance paths with new 404/listing heuristics and stricter mirror errors. > > **Overview** > **GitHub artifact attestation checks now stay on mise-versions by default**, avoiding unauthenticated `api.github.com` calls that were burning the 60/hour rate limit—especially for aqua tools that filter by `predicate_type` (e.g. SPDX SBOMs). > > mise-versions returns **all** attestations for a digest; mise now applies GitHub’s `predicate_type` semantics locally (`provenance` / `sbom` families and exact types) via new `Attestation::matches_predicate_type`, then cryptographically verifies only the selected bundles. > > Mirror handling is centralized in **`verify_with_mirror` / `detect_with_mirror`**: incomplete cached sets (missing inline bundles) are not persisted; a failed verification triggers **one fresh mise-versions fetch** before failing instead of silently falling back to GitHub. mise-versions **non-404 failures** surface as errors (attestation fetch switched to `fetch_json_unless_not_found`). …14477) <!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.io/gh/jdx/mise/trails/757 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Problem Listing a GitHub-hosted tool's versions meant paging through its releases or tags, 100 at a time. That took several requests per tool, and the mise-versions paged endpoints stop at 10 pages, so the oldest versions of repositories like zed-industries/zed (14 pages) and openai/codex weren't listed at all. The paged endpoints also run mise-versions' Worker on every request. aqua's `latest` for packages whose GitHub releases carry no assets (kubectl, terraform, vault) needs GitHub's "latest" mark. mise-versions doesn't serve asset-less releases, so `latest` fell back to the newest listed version. And aqua sent kubectl's lookups straight to `api.github.com`, because the package reads `kubernetes/kubernetes`, not a repository named like its id: ```console $ MISE_DEBUG=1 mise latest aqua:kubernetes/kubectl # no token DEBUG GET https://api.github.com/repos/kubernetes/kubernetes/releases/latest ``` ## Change mise-versions now publishes each public repository's whole release and tag list as a static file (jdx/mise-versions#370): `/data/github/{owner}/{repo}/releases.json`, `tags.json`, and `assets/{asset}/releases.json`. It lists up to 2,000 entries, newest first in GitHub's order. mise reads these first: - **`github:` tools** (`ls-remote`, `latest`, `outdated`, `upgrade`) list versions from `releases.json`. Releases without assets are still dropped unless the tool has a `url`. - **aqua packages:** release-based ones read `releases.json`, and `version_source: github_tag` ones read `tags.json`. So do ubi's tag listing and go's dated tag listing. - **packslip vendors** read `assets/<bundle>/releases.json`, the releases that carry a packslip bundle. - **aqua's `latest`:** when GitHub's "latest" mark can't be read (a release without assets), it comes from the newest stable release in `releases.json`, as long as mise-versions read that list from GitHub within the last 7 hours (its documented refresh interval for quiet repositories, plus a deploy). GitHub's own mark is still used whenever it can be read. - **aqua asks mise-versions for every public repository a package reads**, not only one named like the package. kubectl's `kubernetes/kubernetes`, a checksum file or a signer in another repository all count. Release data from mise-versions is pinned to the repository asked for, and downloads and attestations are verified, so that restriction protected nothing. ```console $ MISE_DEBUG=1 mise ls-remote github:cli/cli DEBUG GET https://mise-versions.jdx.dev/data/github/cli/cli/releases.json $ MISE_DEBUG=1 mise latest aqua:kubernetes/kubectl # no token DEBUG GET https://mise-versions.jdx.dev/data/github/kubernetes/kubernetes/releases.json 1.37.1 ``` **When the whole list can't be used** (an error, a 404 for a repository mise-versions doesn't know, or a list marked `truncated` because it's still being crawled or is longer than the crawl allows), mise falls back to the paged mise-versions endpoints, never to GitHub. Those keep the rules from #14460: GitHub only for an unknown repository, and only with credentials. **Callers that need asset names** (picking a download, packslip's bundle lookup, build revisions) still read full releases. ## Merge order Stacked on #14461 (tags through mise-versions), which is stacked on #14460. All three endpoints this uses are live: ```bash curl https://mise-versions.jdx.dev/data/github/cli/cli/releases.json ``` ## Validation - New e2e test `backend/test_github_whole_release_list` checks that `ls-remote github:cli/cli` reads `releases.json` and doesn't page. - `backend/test_github_api_not_used` gains `latest aqua:kubernetes/kubectl` with no token. - Unit tests cover the list URLs (lowercased, invalid names and assets rejected) and the response shapes from jdx/mise-versions' `docs/github-versions.md`. - Traced with no token: `latest aqua:hashicorp/terraform` → 1.16.5, `aqua:hashicorp/vault` → 2.1.2, `aqua:kubernetes/kubectl` → 1.37.1, and `install aqua:kubernetes/kubectl@1.31.0`. None of them made a request to `api.github.com`. - `test_aqua_version_listing_fetch_failure`, `test_aqua_github_attestations` and `test_lockfile_provenance` pass. - `test_github_api_not_used` and `test_packslip` still fail on this branch, as they do on #14460's branch. Installing a packslip tool that declares a skill in its repository (packslip, fnox) needs mise-versions to serve directory listings, which isn't deployed yet. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) *AI-assisted — Tool: Claude Code; model: anthropic/claude-opus-5-5; version: claude-code_2-1-295_agent.* <!-- CURSOR_SUMMARY --> --- > [!NOTE] > **Medium Risk** > Changes how remote versions and aqua `latest` are resolved across github, aqua, and packslip; mis-trusted or stale whole lists could affect version picks until fallback or cache refresh, though attestations and downloads remain verified separately. > > **Overview** > Version listing for GitHub-backed tools now prefers **mise-versions’ static whole-list JSON** (`releases.json`, `tags.json`, and per-asset `releases.json`) in a single request, with a new lightweight **`ReleaseVersion`** type and cached **`list_release_versions`** / **`list_release_versions_with_asset`** APIs. <!-- entire-trail-link-start --> https://entire.io/gh/jdx/mise/trails/769 <!-- entire-trail-link-end --> ## Problem mise reads public GitHub metadata (release lists, single releases and `latest`, tags, repository contents for packslip skills, attestations, the checksum-mismatch hint, and `mise self-update`'s release) from [mise-versions](https://mise-versions.jdx.dev). Since #14460, #14461 and #14469 it never asked `api.github.com` instead, so a mise-versions outage failed installs outright, even for users with a `GITHUB_TOKEN` who could have asked GitHub. The only way out was turning `use_versions_host` off. ## Change mise-versions stays the first source, but when it **errors** (a timeout, a lost connection, a `429`, or any `5xx`), mise now retries the same lookup on `api.github.com`, with the user's GitHub token if one is set. Anything mise-versions *answers* is still trusted and never reaches GitHub: a `404` (a missing release, tag or repository), an empty list, a `403` (the mirror disabled), and an answer that fails mise's checks. So normal usage still doesn't spend GitHub's 60 anonymous requests an hour. With mise-versions answering `503` and a valid token, `mise ls-remote github:jdx/communique` now lists the versions from GitHub. With a rejected token, both failures are reported: ```text Error: 0: failed to read GitHub releases of jdx/communique from mise-versions.jdx.dev (HTTP status server error (503 Service Unavailable)), and from api.github.com after it 1: HTTP status client error (401 Unauthorized) for url (https://api.github.com/repos/jdx/communique/releases?per_page=100) github auth: yes (token from MISE_GITHUB_TOKEN) ``` GitHub's error stays in the chain, so the "no GitHub token was found" rate-limit hint still appears, and a version list cached earlier still stands in when both sources fail. **Attestations** follow the same rule. A failed mise-versions attestation lookup, or a failed repository listing after an attestation `404`, is retried on GitHub's attestation API, and [`provenance_api_failures_fatal`](https://mise.jdx.dev/configuration/settings.html#provenance_api_failures_fatal) applies to GitHub's answer. Nothing else about attestations changes: bundles are still verified against Sigstore's own trust root, attestations made by another repository are still rejected, the predicate filter still reads the signed payload, and paranoid mode works as before. `use_versions_host = false`, `url_replacements` for GitHub, GitHub Enterprise or other custom API URLs, and private repositories with a token still go to their API directly, as before. ## Implementation One helper, `github::mirror_or_github`, makes the decision for every call site, using `versions_host::retries_on_github` to classify the mirror's failure. Attestations, which return verdicts rather than results, use the same classifier through a new `RetryGithub` verdict. The `use_versions_host` docs, the GitHub tokens, errors, paranoid and github backend pages, and the error messages that said mise asks mise-versions "instead of api.github.com" are updated. The matching client contract change in mise-versions' `docs/github-versions.md` is jdx/mise-versions#381. ## Validation - New unit tests for the helper: no connection, `429` and each `5xx` go to GitHub; a hit, a `404`, an empty answer, a `403`, another `4xx` and a bad answer don't; a failed retry names both failures, keeps GitHub's `403` text for the rate-limit hint, and still allows the stale cache. Attestation verdict tests cover retriable and non-retriable listing failures and the combined error, which stays an API failure. - `e2e/backend/test_github_api_not_used` still asserts no `api.github.com` requests while mise-versions is healthy, and now also points mise-versions at a local server: on `503` mise asks `api.github.com`, and on `404` it does not. - `test_aqua_github_attestations`, `test_github_registry_attestations` and the `test_lockfile_provenance*` tests pass; clippy and the 1.95 MSRV check are clean. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) *AI-assisted — Tool: Claude Code; model: anthropic/claude-opus-5-5; version: claude-code_2-1-295_agent.* <!-- CURSOR_SUMMARY --> --- > [!NOTE] > **Medium Risk** > Changes when installs hit GitHub’s API and how errors propagate across releases, tags, attestations, and caching; behavior on mirror outages improves but dual-source failures and rate limits need careful review. > > **Overview** > When **mise-versions** fails with a timeout, connection error, **429**, or **5xx**, mise now retries the same GitHub metadata lookup on **api.github.com** (with a token when set). Problem
mise asks mise-versions for GitHub release data first, but whenever mise-versions did not answer it asked
api.github.cominstead. Without a token that budget is 60 requests an hour, and it ran out in routine cases:github:tool is tried asv14.1.1and then14.1.1. The wrong spelling was a 404 from mise-versions and then a second 404 from GitHub.latestforaqua:kubernetes/kubectlorterraform@latestwent to GitHub on everylatest, outdated, upgradeandlock, and a 24h cache then skipped mise-versions for them entirely.Change
When mise-versions applies (the default), it is the only source of GitHub release data:
~/.netrcentry for api.github.com). That is the private-repository case, which mise-versions never serves. Without a token the 404 stands, with a hint to set one.use_versions_hostsetting docs now describe this.MISE_LIST_ALL_VERSIONS) end there instead of refetching everything from GitHub.The direct API is still used with
use_versions_host = false, withurl_replacementsthat reroute GitHub, and with GitHub Enterprise or any other customapi_url. Attestations, tags, self-update and packslip have their own PRs.mise-versions endpoints
This relies on mise-versions serving releases without assets (jdx/mise-versions#378) and repository directory listings for packslip skills (#379). Both are deployed:
With no GitHub token,
mise install fnox@1.39.0reads the skill's listing from mise-versions andSKILL.mdfrom raw.githubusercontent.com.mise latest aqua:hashicorp/vaultreads the asset-less release from mise-versions.backend/test_github_api_not_usedandbackend/test_packslippass locally against the live endpoints.Validation
backend/test_github_api_not_usedruns with every GitHub token unset and fails on any request toapi.github.com. It coversls-remote github:jdx/communique,install github:BurntSushi/ripgrep@14.1.1(thev14.1.1guess is a mise-versions 404) andlatest aqua:hashicorp/terraform.test_github,test_ubi,test_aqua_version_listing_fetch_failure,test_github_versions_host_url_replacementsandtest_github_url_trackingpass.🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Note
High Risk
Changes default GitHub metadata routing, 404 handling, caching, and packslip fetch paths—easy to break installs, version listing, or rate-limit assumptions if edge cases are wrong.
Overview
Treats mise-versions as the sole source for public GitHub release metadata when it applies, instead of silently retrying
api.github.comon misses, bad pages, or transient mirror failures—protecting the 60/hour anonymous API budget.Release and list behavior: Mirror pagination no longer hands off to GitHub mid-list or past served pages; a vanished page is an error. Asset-less releases from the mirror are accepted (removing the 24h “skip mise-versions for latest-without-assets” cache). 404 semantics: unknown repo on the mirror may still hit GitHub only with credentials (
GITHUB_TOKEN/ netrc); a 404 for a tag on a known public repo stays a mise-versions 404 (no tag-guessing against GitHub). Resilience:cached_or_stale/VersionsHostUnavailablelet stale disk cache stand in for temporary mirror outages (429/5xx), not for 403 or invalid payloads.Packslip skills: Adds
list_repo_dir/github_contents—listings from mise-versions, file bodies fromraw.githubusercontent.comunless the repo is private orurl_replacementsreroutes the contents API.Docs,
settings.toml, e2e (test_github_api_not_used), and error-display expectations are updated accordingly.Reviewed by Cursor Bugbot for commit 902aa39. Bugbot is set up for automated code reviews on this repo. Configure here.
