fix(engine): report generic test classes by their generic type definition in TRX - #7200
Conversation
…tion in TRX Reflection mode builds each generic test class instantiation with the closed type as ClassMetadata.Type, so the TRX className was Type.FullName of the closed type, with assembly-qualified type arguments, and rows inferring different type arguments were split across several class names. Source-generated mode reports the generic type definition (Ns.Class`1). Normalize constructed generic types to their generic type definition when computing the TRX className and the JSON ClassType, so both modes report the same name. Fixes #7151

[Medium impact] The PR appears safe to merge; no blocking issues remain. SummaryGeneric test classes now use their generic type definition’s full name in TRX and JSON.

The TRX className and the JSON model's ClassType both use GetReportedClassFullName. The engine test only observes the TRX, and the JSON model is not written to any output, so unit tests now pin the helper for closed, open and non-generic types.

…nition too The class-level JSON model still used ClassType.FullName, so in reflection mode it named a generic test class differently from its tests' ClassType. It now uses GetReportedClassFullName as well.

The TRX className comes from
MethodMetadata.Class.Type.FullName(TestExtensions.CreateCachedProperties). Source-generated mode emitsClassMetadata.Type = typeof(Class<>), the generic type definition. Reflection mode builds metadata for each closed instantiation, soFullNameof the closed type includes assembly-qualified type arguments. The JSON output'sClassTypehad the same problem.Fix
A new
TestExtensions.GetReportedClassFullNamemaps a constructed generic type to its generic type definition before takingFullName. The TRX className and the JSONClassTypeboth use it. The result is the source-generated format, which #6433 already treats as spec-conformant: backtick arity, no type arguments in the type name. This also covers any source-generated path that hands over a closed type.I left
ClassMetadata.Typeunchanged in reflection mode. Data-source resolution (TestClassTypeHelper,MethodDataSourceAttribute) needs the closed type there, so changing it could break more than it fixes.TestMethodIdentifierProperty.TypeNamealready usesType.Name(Class1`, plus class-argument decoration per #6433), and that was the same in both modes already.Tests
Issue7151Tests(TUnit.Engine.Tests) checks that every TRX test definition for 4 generic classes inBugs/_7106has classNameNs.Class1`. With the fix reverted, all 4 fail in reflection mode. With the fix, all 4 pass. Locally the AOT/source-gen variants skip (CI only).TUnit.TestProjectwith--treenode-filter "/*/TUnit.TestProject.Bugs._7106/*/*"with and without--reflectionand diffed theclassNameattributes. All classes discovered in both modes now have identical names. The 3 extra classes in reflection mode are reflection-only by design (untyped class data sources).Issue7106Tests,Issue7105Tests,JsonOutputTests,NestedExceptionTrxTests,JUnitReporterTests: all pass (non-skipped).TUnit.Enginebuilds for all TFMs.Fixes #7151
