refactor(operator): make Condition.status an enum (#315) - #481
Condition.status was a free-form String, so the CRD schema accepted any value and call sites compared string literals. This adds ConditionStatus { True, False, Unknown }, with the same wire values as metav1.ConditionStatus. It derives JsonSchema, so the generated CRDs constrain conditions[].status to that enum, and the type is threaded through Reason::status() and every writer and reader.>
The GridNetwork, GridSite and InferenceProvider CRDs are regenerated, in deploy/ and the chart copies. The Go types are unchanged. The enum-constant test now skips metav1.Condition-shaped schemas.>
Summary by CodeRabbit
Improvements
Condition statuses in GridNetwork, GridSite, and InferenceProvider resource definitions are now restricted to True, False, or Unknown, helping catch unsupported values.
Operator conditions and reports now use consistent status values across network, site, inference, enrollment, and readiness workflows. Existing status outcomes and messages remain unchanged.
The operator now represents condition statuses with a ConditionStatus enum containing True, False, and Unknown. The enum is used across condition construction, evaluation, and tests. The three CRD schemas enumerate the same allowed values.
Changes: Typed condition statuses
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Condition type and CRD schemas crates/operator/src/crd/inference_provider.rs, charts/grid-operator/templates/crds/*, deploy/crds/*, go/api/v1alpha1/serialization_test.go
Condition.status now uses ConditionStatus, which serializes the three allowed values and rejects invalid strings. The InferenceProvider, GridSite, and GridNetwork schemas enumerate those values. The Go serialization test recognizes the metav1.Condition schema shape.
Controller readiness and rollup crates/operator/src/controller/*, crates/operator/src/readiness.rs, crates/operator/src/rollup.rs
Controllers, readiness evaluation, and rollups use typed statuses. Existing verdict mappings and rollup rules remain unchanged. Related fixtures and tests use enum values.
Enrollment and renewal verdicts crates/operator/src/enroll/*
Enrollment and renewal verdicts use typed statuses. Existing branches, reasons, and messages remain unchanged; tests adapt status comparisons.
Peer, gateway, and SWIM conditions crates/operator/src/gateway_ages.rs, crates/operator/src/main.rs, crates/operator/src/peer_*.rs, crates/operator/src/signals.rs
These condition producers assign typed statuses directly. Their existing selection behavior remains unchanged, and affected tests assert enum variants.
praxis-proxy/grid#485 — This issue concerns no-peer condition outcomes and reasons. The PR adds the Unknown enum value but does not change those status transitions.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
[#315] requires Condition.status to be a typed enum, Reason::status() to return that type, the wire values True, False, and Unknown to stay unchanged, and the generated schema to stay the same. At the reviewed head, crates/operator/src/crd/inference_provider.rs defines ConditionStatus with Clone, Copy, Debug, Default, Deserialize, Eq, Hash, JsonSchema, PartialEq, Serialize. Its variants are True, False, and Unknown, with no serde rename, so the wire values match. Condition.status is now ConditionStatus. crates/operator/src/readiness.rs changes Reason::status() to return ConditionStatus, and the metrics, endpoint, and reachability helpers and changed() carry the enum. Tests in that file cover wire values, invalid-value rejection (true, TRUE, empty string, Maybe), condition round-tripping, and a test that the generated InferenceProvider, GridSite, and GridNetwork CRDs constrain conditions[].status to type: string with enum: ["True", "False", "Unknown"]. The deploy/crds and chart YAML copies are described in the PR as regenerated. I could not read those blobs in this review, so their contents are not independently verified. The Rust test checks the generated schema directly. Changes since the previous reviewed head were not separately diffed. The whole-PR diff of the files read matches the previous conclusion.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changed files support the #315 type change. Changes in readiness.rs and crd/inference_provider.rs implement the enum and its schema test. Other crates (controller, enrollment, renewal, rollup, gateway, peer, signal, and main modules) update existing Condition.status writers, readers, and tests to ConditionStatus. These edits are needed for the type to compile, and the summaries report unchanged reasons, messages, and verdict outcomes. The deploy/crds and chart YAML changes are regenerated CRD output for the same type change. The Go serialization_test.go change skips metav1.Condition-shaped schemas in the enum-constant check. That check would otherwise fail because those constants are not in zz_generated_types.go. The PR reports that Go API types are unchanged. No change was found that is unrelated to #315.
Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
Docstring coverage is 71.43% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 42 functions across 16 files. (7 skipped: 6 unsupported, 1 too large.)
Resolution
Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.
