logpuller: bound span cleanup and quiet expected drops - #6810
Will it cause performance regression or break compatibility?
Do you need to update user documentation, design documentation or monitoring documentation?
Release note

Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Suppressed warnings for dropped region events when their subscription has stopped. Warnings for active subscriptions now include the subscription ID for easier identification.
Improved responsiveness when processing large backlogs of region failures, while allowing cached errors to be handled between batches.
Improved handling of queued control requests while waiting for region requests, helping workers remain ready for incoming work.
Process drained subscriptions in bounded batches and interleave them with cached region failures so active subscriptions can recover promptly.\n\nSuppress drop warnings for stopped subscriptions and normal shutdown while retaining diagnostics for unexpected active drops.

The changes update region failure batching, memory-quota wait measurement, drop-event logging, and region request worker handling of control-queue readiness.
Changes: Region failure processing
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Bound the drained-span queue logservice/logpuller/region_failure_handler.go, logservice/logpuller/region_failure_handler_test.go
popDrainedSpans removes up to a supplied limit, clears removed references, and retains remaining spans. The batch limit is 128. Tests check partial and complete queue removal.
Interleave span and error processing logservice/logpuller/region_failure_handler.go, logservice/logpuller/region_failure_handler_test.go
Run checks for context cancellation before each drain callback and processes cached errors between full span batches. A test checks the returned error and the remaining queued span.
Admission wait metrics
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Measure one admission wait interval logservice/logpuller/region_admission_controller.go, logservice/logpuller/memory_quota_test.go
pop records memory-quota wait duration once across repeated waits. The test checks that notifications do not record a sample before the wait ends and that interruption records one sample.
Drop-event logging
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Filter drops and identify subscriptions logservice/logpuller/region_event_handler.go, logservice/logpuller/region_event_handler_test.go
OnDrop skips logging when the subscribed span is stopped. Other drop warnings identify the subscription. The test checks stopped and active subscriptions.
Worker control queue
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Handle controls while waiting for requests logservice/logpuller/region_request_worker.go, logservice/logpuller/region_request_worker_test.go
waitForRegionRequest waits on control-queue readiness and continues waiting if a control request does not produce a region request. The test checks that queued deregistration requests drain without returning the worker.
pingcap/ticdc#6708: This change interleaves drained-span cleanup and cached region-error processing in the logpuller path described by the issue. The provided context does not establish that it resolves the reported lag.
Possibly related PRs
pingcap/ticdc#6598: This PR adds the control queue that waitForRegionRequest now checks and drains.
pingcap/ticdc#6601: This PR queues drained-span cleanup in regionFailureHandler; this change adds batch limits and processes cached errors between span batches.
pingcap/ticdc#6599: This PR adds memory-quota accounting and stopped-subscription handling in the region event path, which the current changes also update.

A rabbit checks the waiting queue, Then counts the spans in batches, too. A stopped subscription leaves no trace, One wait gets measured, time and place. The worker waits for work to do, And hops along when controls pass through.
Add a test for a drained-span backlog that has no error.
TestRegionFailureHandlerInterleavesDrainedSpansAndErrors ends on its first error batch. The test checks only the first 128-span batch. No test in this file runs Run with more than drainedSpanBatchSize drained spans and no error. A change that returns after one drained batch in that case would not be detected.
A wall-clock assertion that all callbacks finish within 200ms is not reliable. The fallback ticker in Run uses the same 200ms interval, so a regressed run and the fallback tick finish at about the same time, and scheduler delay can change the result. A reliable test needs to remove the fallback path. Make the fallback interval settable so the test can set it to a long value. Then wait for the drained-span callback count with require.Eventually. A regressed run leaves one span pending and the wait fails. Use a synchronized counter, such as sync/atomic, because the callback runs on the Run goroutine.

Extend TestRegionFailureHandlerInterleavesDrainedSpansAndErrors with a no-error
case containing more than drainedSpanBatchSize spans, and make Run’s fallback

path. Count drained-span callbacks with a synchronized counter such as
sync/atomic, then use require.Eventually to verify every span is drained;
preserve the existing error-case assertions.

- Description check:
1. Replace "close #xxx" with the real issue number on the "Issue Number:" line.
2. Describe the change under "What is changed and how it works?": bounded
drained-span batches of 128 interleaved with cached region errors in
regionFailureHandler.Run, and suppressed drop warnings in
regionEventHandler.OnDrop for stopped subscriptions and canceled sink contexts
while keeping logs for unexpected active drops. 3. Keep only the applicable test
items (for example, Unit test) and list the tests that were run, such as
TestOnDropLogsOnlyForActiveSubscription and the popDrainedSpans and Run
interleaving tests. 4. Answer the performance and compatibility question.
Batching changes scheduling order for drained spans, so state whether it affects
throughput or recovery latency. 5. Answer the documentation question. 6. Replace
the release note placeholder with a release note, or write `None` if no release
note is needed.
