metrics: register component collectors during server startup (#6663) - #6791
Central metric definitions and import-time registration couple runtime components. Kafka cannot reuse the common keyspace-label helper without creating an import cycle.
What is changed and how it works?
Move collectors into their owning component packages, keep collectors private when they have a single owner, and expose RegisterMetrics entry points.
Register collectors explicitly during server startup. Keep build metadata recording in server.RecordBuildInfo, called from the startup command.
Reuse the common keyspace-label helper for Kafka metrics. Shared sink, dynamic-stream and redo collectors retain a single definition and registration owner.
Consolidate sink implementation and downstream-system classification in config.ParseSinkURI. Update Grafana descriptions to match the scheme-derived MySQL label.
Check List
Tests
Manual test (static validation):
make fmt for changed Go files, using the existing formatting tools in an isolated checkout.
gofmt -l for all 138 changed Go files.
git diff --check master..HEAD.
Traced startup registration: the same 269 collectors remain registered, with no omissions or duplicate registrations.
Checked collector definitions, sampling and cleanup references, package declarations, and the local import graph.
Compared the split branch's complete file tree with the original branch combined with current master.
Builds, unit tests and integration tests have not been run locally for this refactor.
Questions
Will it cause performance regression or break compatibility?
Collector names, bucket layouts and sampling/cleanup behavior are preserved. The following externally visible changes are intentional:
MySQL URI downstream-type labels change from mysql/tidb to mysql. Confirmed TiDB downstreams continue to be shown as tidb. Custom queries matching the old combined value need updating.
Unparseable sink URIs produce a sanitized panic from the shared parser.
No performance benchmarks were run.
Do you need to update user documentation, design documentation or monitoring documentation?
The Classic Grafana dashboard and both generated NextGen dashboards have updated downstream-type descriptions. Their queries and layouts are unchanged.
Release note
Report MySQL sink URI downstream types as `mysql`; confirmed TiDB downstreams continue to use `tidb`.

Metric definitions and call sites move into owning packages across several subsystems. The server adds a registry that registers package metrics, and sink statistics gain DML and DDL recording methods. Several changed hunks contain unresolved merge-conflict markers, so the summaries do not establish a compilable final state.
Changes: Metrics ownership and registration
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Shared labels, build info, and registry pkg/metrics/*, server/*, cmd/cdc/server/server.go
The server delegates build-info recording to server.RecordBuildInfo(). Package-level registration functions are wired into a private server registry.
Coordinator changefeed metrics coordinator/*
Changefeed and coordinator code uses collectors owned by those packages. Checkpoint cleanup now includes StateFailed; tests cover cleanup for inactive states and error-info reset.
Event service and dynamic streams pkg/eventservice/*, utils/dynstream/*, downstreamadapter/eventcollector/event_collector.go
Collectors become package-local, and event-processing call sites and tests use those collectors. Event-service registration adds an event-store output counter.
Event store and log puller logservice/eventstore/*, logservice/logpuller/*
Event-store and log-puller collectors move into their owning packages. Their call sites and tests use package-local collectors, and registration functions replace prior initializers.
Sink metrics and statistics downstreamadapter/sink/*, pkg/sink/codec/metrics.go
Sink metric registration is added or updated. The new statistics API records DML and DDL observations and removes its labeled series on close. Some sink and codec hunks contain conflict markers.
Maintainer metrics maintainer/*
A maintainer metrics file defines and registers collectors. Maintainer setup, collection, cleanup, and tests use package-level collectors.
This PR is not merge-ready: the server cannot build, several test packages cannot compile, and the new metrics registration is never invoked during startup. Resolve the conflicts, complete the API migrations, and restore collector registration before merging.

Explanation
The title names a metrics refactor, but the changeset is mainly about moving metric collectors into owning packages and exposing RegisterMetrics entry points. The title does not mention the other changes, such as the MySQL downstream label change or the ParseSinkURI consolidation. The title is still related to the main change. The title is 68 characters and 8 words, which fits the short single-sentence style. The title does not mention the cherry-pick origin, which is acceptable.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template. It includes the problem statement, the change summary, the check list with the test results, the compatibility answers, the documentation answer, and the release note. The Issue Number line uses 'ref #6644' instead of the required 'close' or 'ref' format, which the template allows. The description marks unit and integration tests as not run. The documentation question is answered. The description does not fully cover the metric label changes for the NextGen Kafka producer. The 'Tests' section uses a manual test entry, which the template allows.

Add a registration check for the dynstream collectors to TestRegisterMetrics.
TestRegisterMetrics gathers seven named families and asserts a total of 8. The dynstream families are not in that name list. If dynstream.RegisterMetrics is removed from registerMetrics, the count stays at 8 and the test still passes. No other test checks this registration.
A GaugeVec with no children emits no samples. A name-only check therefore cannot detect registration unless a child exists. Record one child, then gather its family in a separate call. Leave the existing total assertion unchanged.

Resolve the conflict markers in TestStopByChangefeedIDDeletesCheckpointMetrics.
Lines 152, 165, and 181 contain Git conflict markers. Go cannot parse them, so the coordinator/changefeed test package does not compile. Keep the incoming body (lines 166-180). It uses unqualified collector names and checks ChangefeedDownstreamInfoGauge. Delete the HEAD body and all three markers. Before you finish, confirm that these collector names exist in coordinator/changefeed/metrics.go after its conflict is resolved.
Conflict markers also remain in coordinator/changefeed/changefeed_db.go and coordinator/changefeed/metrics.go. The package does not compile until those are resolved too.

Qualify the GetKeyspaceLabel calls with the metrics package.
Package changefeed does not define GetKeyspaceLabel. The helper exists only in pkg/metrics. Eight collector declarations still call the unqualified name, so the package fails to compile. Call metrics.GetKeyspaceLabel() at each of these lines.

Resolve the conflict markers and remove the duplicate ChangefeedDownstreamIsTiDBGauge collector.
coordinator/changefeed/metrics.go still contains Git conflict markers. Go cannot parse them, so package coordinator/changefeed does not compile. Keep the cherry-picked side of each conflict block.
The HEAD side of the first block also declares ChangefeedDownstreamIsTiDBGauge. The trailing registry.MustRegister(ChangefeedDownstreamIsTiDBGauge) runs for either side. That collector has the same fully qualified name as changefeedDownstreamIsTiDBGauge in downstreamadapter/sink/mysql/metrics.go. The server registers both collectors on one registry through changefeed.RegisterMetrics and mysqlSink.RegisterMetrics. The second registration panics at startup. The MySQL sink owns this metric, so remove the coordinator copy and its registration.

Declare or import GetKeyspaceLabel in dynstream before this package builds.
utils/dynstream/metrics.go:26 calls GetKeyspaceLabel() without a qualifier. The file is now package dynstream and imports only prometheus. Remove one of the duplicate WorkerSendMessageDuration, WorkerBatchSize, and WorkerBatchDuration declarations.
downstreamadapter/sink/metrics/mq.go already declares these three collectors at package level. downstreamadapter/sink/metrics/metrics.go declares the same identifiers again in a var block outside the conflict markers. Resolving the conflict to the RegisterMetrics side keeps that block. The package then has two package-level declarations for each name, and the Go compiler rejects it with "redeclared in this block" errors.
The two copies also use different label sets: "namespace" in mq.go and metrics.GetKeyspaceLabel() in metrics.go. Keep one definition with the intended label, and make sure each collector is registered once per registry.

Call registerMetrics once during server startup.
The unexported registerMetrics in server/register_metrics.go has no production caller. Startup in cmd/cdc/server/server.go calls only server.RecordBuildInfo(). Nothing in server/ calls registerMetrics either, including server.New in server/server.go.
As a result, the component collectors that registerMetrics registers into registry are never exposed on /metrics. api.RegisterRoutes serves that registry through prometheus.DefaultGatherer and promhttp.Handler() (api/http.go:53-54). Dashboards that query these collectors show no data.
Add a once-only call to registerMetrics in package server, for example at the start of New guarded by sync.Once. cmd cannot call the unexported function. A second call on the same registry panics in MustRegister, so the guard is required. Confirm the insertion point against the body of New.

Review comment at @server/register_metrics.go around lines 60 - 61:
Ensure the component collectors registered by registerMetrics are exposed by
invoking it once during the server startup path in New; confirm the insertion
point against New’s existing initialization flow. Prevent repeated registration
against the same registry, since MustRegister panics on duplicates.

This is an automated cherry-pick of #6663
What problem does this PR solve?
Issue Number: ref #6644
Central metric definitions and import-time registration couple runtime components. Kafka cannot reuse the common keyspace-label helper without creating an import cycle.
What is changed and how it works?
RegisterMetricsentry points.server.RecordBuildInfo, called from the startup command.config.ParseSinkURI. Update Grafana descriptions to match the scheme-derived MySQL label.Check List
Tests
make fmtfor changed Go files, using the existing formatting tools in an isolated checkout.gofmt -lfor all 138 changed Go files.git diff --check master..HEAD.Builds, unit tests and integration tests have not been run locally for this refactor.
Questions
Will it cause performance regression or break compatibility?
Collector names, bucket layouts and sampling/cleanup behavior are preserved. The following externally visible changes are intentional:
keyspace_name; Classic usesnamespace. This overlaps the focused label fix in kafka: align producer metric labels with kernel type #6645.mysql/tidbtomysql. Confirmed TiDB downstreams continue to be shown astidb. Custom queries matching the old combined value need updating. No performance benchmarks were run.
Do you need to update user documentation, design documentation or monitoring documentation?
The Classic Grafana dashboard and both generated NextGen dashboards have updated downstream-type descriptions. Their queries and layouts are unchanged.
