- Line 44: Update the HEAD comparison in the `Some(prev)` match arm so it
reports movement only when `git_head(root)` returns a current HEAD and that ID
differs from `prev`; leave the variable unset when no current HEAD is available.
- Around line 139-141: At src/watch_files.rs lines 139-141, update the
head_moved handling to remove MISE_WATCH_FILES_HEAD_MOVED from env when
head_moved is false; apply the same change at src/watch_files.rs lines 204-206
in the task executor so neither child environment inherits a stale flag.

- Line 50: Update the `mtime` comparison in the watched-file check so an
ordinary commit does not mark files as rewritten; determine rewrite status from
changes to the watched file itself rather than HEAD reflog movement. Preserve
detection of actual checkout rewrites, and cover both checkout and
edit-then-commit cases in the `test_watch_files_git_rewritten` end-to-end test.

Instruction countsNothing was compared, and so nothing was gated. No series appears on both sides: either the base has no measurements recorded, or the two were measured on different runner classes, which are deliberately not comparable — counts shift between machine types by more than a real regression does. New, nothing to compare against: Only instruction counts gate. Wall clock is shown for context — on identical hardware it moves 4-20% run to run. Measured by tak — instruction-counted CLI benchmarks, stored in this repository's git notes.

A
[[watch_files]]hook such as format-on-edit also fires for files git rewrote: after a rebase, checkout or pull, the next prompt runs the hook on every file git touched and leaves modified files the user never edited (discussion #14509).mise now sets
MISE_WATCH_FILES_GIT_REWRITTEN=1for the hook's command or task when every changed file was last written before git last moved HEAD, so the hook can skip:It compares each changed file's mtime with the mtime of HEAD's reflog (
.git/logs/HEAD), which git writes after updating the working tree. That keeps no state between prompts and costs a few stats, only when a hook already has matching changed files. A real edit made after the HEAD move is newer than the log, so the variable stays unset and the hook runs. Outside a git checkout it is never set.git stash popdoes not move HEAD, so it is not detected (noted in the docs).Closes discussion #14509.

Note
Low Risk
Prompt-path heuristic using reflog mtimes; behavior is opt-in via hook scripts and documented edge cases, with no auth or data-handling impact.
Overview
[[watch_files]]hooks can now tell when Git—not the user—rewrote the changed files. mise setsMISE_WATCH_FILES_GIT_REWRITTEN=1onrunandtaskinvocations when every matching file’s mtime is at or before the latest HEAD reflog update, and the last HEAD move was not a commit. Hooks can use that to skip formatters/fixers after checkout, pull, or rebase.Detection lives in
watch_files.rs: resolve.git(including worktrees), read reflog tail to ignore commit-only HEAD moves, compare mtimes, then inject or clear the env var alongsideMISE_WATCH_FILES_MODIFIED. Docs add usage, limits (stash pop/apply, mixed edits), and an e2e testconfig/test_watch_files_git_rewritten.Reviewed by Cursor Bugbot for commit 684a1b0. Summary by CodeRabbit
MISE_WATCH_FILES_GIT_REWRITTEN, set to1when all changed files were rewritten by a GitHEADupdate. It is unset for ordinary edits, commits, stash operations, or when any changed file was modified after the update.
