Navigate logical layers of code changes, visualize relationships, and explore their blast radius. 📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughInstall failure messages now include a hint when version listing fails. The lock command checks resolved versions against configured and CLI-requested versions. The e2e test covers install and lock failures, including a CLI version override. Resolution cannot tell a selector like 4 from a short exact version (zigmod's r100 is requested as 100) once the version list failed, so keep passing such requests through. Instead, refuse to lock a version that only resolved to its own request string, and note the failed listing in install errors. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Without a release-age cutoff, lock records a tool@version argument without re-resolving it, so the configured request stays unchanged and the version never matched it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

When mise can't fetch an aqua tool's version list (GitHub rate limit, network failure, a mirror that is down), a request like
4resolves to itself, because without the list mise can't tell a version selector from a short exact version. mise then trusted that string:The lockfile got a version that may not exist, and the install error never mentioned that the version list was missing.
mise locknow refuses to record a version that only resolved to its own request string after that tool's listing failed, unless the version is installed:Versions already in the lockfile are unaffected, because they resolve from the lockfile and don't need the list.
mise installstill tries the request as written, since a short exact version can be valid: aqua'snektro/zigmodmaps100to itsr100tag. When that fails, the error now says the version was never checked against its version list and why:Only backends that record a failed fetch are affected, and today that's aqua.

Changes lock and install error paths for aqua tools when version listing fails; incorrect exemptions could block valid locks or still allow bad pins.
Overview
When an aqua tool’s remote version list cannot be fetched, a fuzzy request like
"4"can resolve to itself without ever being validated.mise lockno longer writes those strings into the lockfile: it errors withcannot lock … unable to fetch versionsunless the version came from the lockfile, is already installed, or was explicitly passed astool@versionon the CLI (still checked the same way).mise installbehavior is unchanged—it still attempts the requested version—but failed installs now append a note that the version was not checked against its version list and include the listing failure cause. The aqua listing-fetch-failure e2e test now covers prefix installs, config pins, and CLI
tool@versionoverrides under unreachable listing hosts.Reviewed by Cursor Bugbot for commit e6d3c88. Bugbot is set up for automated code reviews on this repo. Configure here.
Summary by CodeRabbit
mise locknow rejects requested versions that cannot be verified against the tool’s available version list, unless the version is already installed or was resolved from the lockfile. CLItool@versionrequests are also checked, preventing unverified versions from being recorded as confirmed.
