[bug-bash] Track gVisor / microVM parity gaps for 1.0 #3226

Open

Description

Since #2780 a template doesn't pick its sandbox class, so these show up as the same template behaving differently depending on where it lands. We should fix or document each before 1.0.

Found with an AI-assisted sweep of both workers. Links are pinned to 93ec720, kata 4.3.1 and gVisor release-20261019.0.

Behavior Changes

rc1 is cut, so these need an exception now, otherwise we document them:

Bugfixes

rc1 is cut, so these also need a cherry-pick to release-1.0:

microVM: pass the pids limit to the guest.

i will take a look at this as well, also happy to share it with others if interested.

This bug fix also involves upstream kata changes and requires one kata release. It is not very realistic to get it fixed this week.
    The PR is kata-containers/kata-containers#14141.

I can take gVisor: make the durable dir root 0777, as the API guide says if no one is on it yet.

For gVisor: stop leaving sandboxes behind, I'll investigate whether this requires a fix in gVisor.

I will also draft the gVisor updates for the docs tomorrow or early next week.

I updated the tracking in the issue body and I'm working through second passes on these. We also discussed at the community meeting https://xkcd.com/1172/ and the ability to keep landing some of these int 1.0.x if we have to.

Reject unknown capability names at admission.

Taking this one since no one else has and it's technically a breaking API change, better to introduce early.

    Same /dev/shm, /run and /tmp on both

Still concerned about this one as a breaking change. nybidari was looking into it. I think we want to align these fully for 1.0 if at all possible.

Inconsistent tmpfs mounts could cause surprising behavior for rootfs snapshots down the line Dmitry Berkovich (@dberkov) Zoe Zhao (@zoez7) FYI.
