Description

@jonromanovmoore

I am using

#!/bin/sh
exec /usr/local/bin/wmaker

In my .xinitrc file but its not working I installed the gnustep, windowmaker, xorg and gnustep-app meta port on FreeBSD 16.0 CURRENT any help? Any help pulling on all the maintainers files in the macports would be appreciated. I go to FreeBSD's GitHub and download the CVS files of FreeBSD is it POSIX? The only Linux Distros I can tolerate are Debian because of the KFreeBSD kernel and Oracle Linux. OpenBSD is too easy. I have NeXtStep sources from when I was younger. Linux does always crash. When I startx it launches XTERM. not Windowmaker. gnustep-app is really just GAP.

it's 3:29 EST I have to eat lunch. I ate a Turkey sandwich and a Vanilla yogurt.

https://www.rami.org.il/blog/freebsd-window-maker/#getting-started-with-window-maker

I use nano and sudo using just exec wmaker in the .xinitrc file still doesn't work. the above link helped now its looking for a XAuthority file.

Now .Xauthority I can startx '(with enable_xauth=1)` for all users. just not Windowmaker I am using ZSH not Bash
I may use DOAS silimar to RUNAS and VIM I just dont like VIM. you really should use doas and window maker together.

did a pkg remove zsh and a pkg install bash still no dice.

Microsoft uses a Stacking Window Manager

I used FreeBSD 15.0 RELEASE yesterday and it worked but I was getting a certificate error late in the day and pkg wouldn't load

Thank You,

    I use shutdown -p now and startx in the console

    yes windowmaker is in /usr/local/bin

    no I dont enable XTERM in the .profile.

    I'll try to clean up XKB_DEFAULT_RULES message from ZSH

    cleaned the .profile file by removing the ZSH message and didn't need the Auth file still not Windowmaker just X.

    To take advantage of all the features from the GNUstep framework, you should add the following lines to your ~/.xsession or ~/.xinitrc:

    . ${TRUEPREFIX}/share/GNUstep/Makefiles/GNUstep.sh # (gnustep-make)
    ${TRUEPREFIX}/bin/gdnc # notifications daemon (gnustep-base)
    ${TRUEPREFIX}/bin/gpbs # clipboard/pasteboard daemon (gnustep-back)
    ${TRUEPREFIX}/bin/make_services # update service cache (gnustep-gui)

    To enable gdomap(8), the distributed objects lookup daemon (gnustep-base) add gdomap to the pkg_scripts variable in
    /etc/rc.conf.local.

    pkg_add gdm

    if [ -x /usr/local/sbin/gdm ]; then
           echo -n ' gdm';        /usr/local/sbin/gdm
    fi

    rcctl enable gdm # or sddm, or lightdm
    rcctl start gdm

    To boot in single user mode use boot -s
