[BUG][CML] sof fails during the initialization: cl_dsp_init: timeout HDA_DSP_SRAM_REG_ROM_STATUS read #2842
This issue happens on an HP CML laptop, using old v5.0 kernel. It seems the same issue as #2890 (sporadic on ICL RVP)
or #2136 (caused by bad ME, fixed)
We tried to run the sof-logger to collect the log, but it failed and reported "error: Unable to open in file /sys/kernel/debug/sof/trace", so it looks like this debugging too depends on the sof driver initialize without error and could work, but for our case, the sof fails during the initialization, so far we has not run the sof-logger successfully.

Customer confirmed this issue cannot be reproduced after upgrading the whole system.
Maybe there is some hardware issue for this HW sample, or more likely its BIOS doesn’t initialize the audio PCI device properly. And the issue seems to be fixed by upgraded system.

@hugh712 @cooper-chiou Please test with latest sof-dev kernel with SOF FW v1.4.2 binary.

@mengdonglin
still doesn't work, here is the dmesg
hp-sof-failed-dmesg-2.log

The same error pattern in the above dmesg of latest sof-dev kernel, shared by @hugh712

When error occurs, the ROM initialization is failed. It is very likely that the ROM is waiting for ME.
So changing FW or driver don't make effect.
