MSI Katana 15 HX C14WFK: No SoundWire machine driver for RT712 VB + RT1320 on Raptor Lake #6018
MSI Katana 15 HX C14WFK: No SoundWire machine driver for RT712 VB + RT1320 on Raptor Lake
Hardware
Laptop: MSI Katana 15 HX C14WFK
Motherboard: MS-15T3
Kernel: 6.18.57-gentoo-dist-bin
Audio controller: Intel Raptor Lake HD Audio
SoundWire link 0: sdw:0:0:025d:0713:01 (RT712 VB)
SoundWire link 1: sdw:0:1:025d:1320:01 (RT1320)
Problem
The internal laptop speakers are unavailable under Linux. The Intel SOF audio card is detected, but ALSA exposes only HDMI playback devices. External monitor audio through NVIDIA HDMI works.
Relevant kernel messages
No SoundWire machine driver found for the ACPI-reported configuration
link 0 mfg_id 0x025d part_id 0x0713 version 0x3
link 1 mfg_id 0x025d part_id 0x1320 version 0x3
using HDA machine driver skl_hda_dsp_generic now
Investigation
The Raptor Lake SoundWire machine table in soc-acpi-intel-rpl-match.c does not appear to include this RT712 VB + RT1320 combination.
Other platform tables, including Lunar Lake and Panther Lake, contain RT712/RT1320 configurations, but their SoundWire link assignments differ.
Both codec modules are available and loaded:
snd_soc_rt712_sdca
snd_soc_rt1320_sdw
The generic snd_soc_sof_sdw machine-driver module is available but not selected.
The kernel supports IPC3 and IPC4. Automatic selection currently uses IPC3, with sof-rpl-s.ri and sof-hda-generic-idisp.tplg.
IPC4 Raptor Lake firmware is installed, but I could not identify a topology matching RT712 on link 0 and RT1320 on link 1.
Question
Could this laptop require a new Raptor Lake SoundWire machine-driver match and a corresponding SOF topology? I would appreciate guidance on the appropriate upstream implementation and would be happy to test a proposed patch.
