Kernel 7.2.8 (linux-omarchy, Arch based), SOF firmware 2.2.0, topology sof-cml-es8336-dmic2ch-ssp0.tplg
Problem
With the kernel's existing quirk for BOHB-WAX9-PCB-B2, which resolves to 0x1a0 on this machine (DMIC, headphone GPIO, headset mic on MIC1), the internal speakers are completely silent. The Speaker sink and controls look normal.
Workaround
options snd_soc_sof_es8336 quirk=0x1b0 makes the speakers work:
So on this unit the speaker amplifier is on GPIO1 and the headphone amplifier on GPIO0, the reverse of the unit the 2022 quirk was written for ("gpio0 controls the speaker output; gpio1 controls the headphone output"), and of the M1120 in #5899, whose speakers work on 0x1a0.
Not tested yet: the headphone jack and the microphones, as I have no headphones at hand.
Suggestion
Several versions share BOHB-WAX9-PCB-B2 (M1120 in #5899, M1200, M1280 here), so a more specific DMI entry ahead of the existing one, e.g. also matching DMI_PRODUCT_VERSION "M1280", with SOF_ES8336_SPEAKERS_EN_GPIO1_QUIRK | SOF_ES8336_HEADPHONE_GPIO | SOC_ES8336_HEADSET_MIC1. I can't tell whether the difference follows the hardware version or the BIOS. I'm happy to provide alsa-info, the ACPI tables (DSDT), or test patches.
