Description
Hi,
Internal speakers do not work on my HP OmniBook X 14 under Linux. Headset jack, internal mic and HDMI audio all enumerate and work — only the built-in speakers are dead. The two TAS2783 amplifiers attach on the SoundWire bus (status Attached, no NACKs), but there is no machine driver match for this configuration, so the card falls back to the default driver with function topologies and no Speaker PCM is ever created.
This looks closely related to #5802 (OmniBook Ultra 14, 8EB4, 4x TAS2783) — same part_id 0x0000 and missing SmartAmp SDCA function — but this is a different board (8EA6, 2x TAS2783) and, unlike #5802, the amps here attach cleanly (no -5/-61 NACK). I'm happy to test patches, provide an acpidump, SoundWire sysfs dumps, or anything else useful.
Hardware
- Laptop: HP OmniBook X 14-ka0xxx
- DMI board / ProductConfigId: 8EA6
- BIOS: F.02, 2026-01-09
- SoC: Intel Panther Lake (sof-audio-pci-intel-ptl, 0000:00:1f.3)
- Audio: RT712 SDCA headset/jack (link 3, works) + 2x TAS2783 smart amps (both on link 2)
- Secure Boot off
SoundWire devices (sysfs)
sdw:0:2:0102:0000:01:9 TAS2783 modalias sdw:m0102p0000v03c01 status Attached
sdw:0:2:0102:0000:01:c TAS2783 modalias sdw:m0102p0000v03c01 status Attached
sdw:0:3:025d:0712:01 RT712 modalias sdw:m025Dp0712v03c01 status Attached (works)
Note the TAS2783 part_id reads 0x0000 (modalias p0000) rather than a real TAS2783 part id.
Versions
- kernel 7.2.11-arch1-1 (Arch stable)
- linux-firmware 20260916
- sof-firmware 2026.09.2 (SOF lib ADSPFW 2.15.0.1 boots fine)
- alsa-ucm-conf 1.2.16.1, alsa-lib 1.2.16.1
What happens
ACPI reports SDCA functions UAJ (type 6), SmartMic (type 3) and HID (type 10) — there is no Speaker/SmartAmp SDCA function for the two TAS2783 amps. The kernel then reports no machine driver for the config and loads only jack/mic/HDMI function topologies; no speaker topology (sof-sdca-2amp-*) is ever selected. pactl shows only auto_null, and /proc/asound/card0/components is empty.

(The 8EA6-2-0x{9,C}.bin files are the per-amp calibration blobs; they are not shipped under that name in linux-firmware. Given the config has no machine driver and no SmartAmp SDCA function in the first place, I don't think the missing blobs are the primary blocker — but mentioning them for completeness.)

Question
Is machine-driver matching + SmartAmp/SDCA enablement for the 8EA6 (OmniBook X 14, 2x TAS2783 on PTL link 2) config planned or in progress? Given the amps attach cleanly here, is a quirk/match-table entry enough, or does the missing SmartAmp SDCA function in ACPI need to be worked around in the driver? Happy to collect an acpidump, full dmesg, SoundWire register dumps, or test patches — just let me know what's useful.
Thanks!

Seems similar to #5981
