Description

@q66

On kernel 7.0 (with latest alsa ucm configs, linux-firmware etc.) it works fine (besides the mute LED always being on on the keyboard).

    Hm... odd, that match shouldn't be required for this device. Could you please provide the full log in the failing case? I don't see any clues in the snippet as to why the machine driver probe deferred.

    oddly enough now it's not deferring? now it's just refusing to create a duplicate sysfs entry? not sure about this one

    Sigh.. it's another one of these systems with a realtek device in the ACPI that doesn't actually exist. Could you grab the output of:

    Fixed better in our downstream: chimera-linux/cports@f0aac5a

    This is based on torvalds@4dab2b9 but adds the quirk for my specific laptop. Confirmed working here (currently running the kernel)

  9. q66 commented on Jun 26, 2026

    @q66

    Specifically the quirk is

    +	{
    +		.matches = {
    +			DMI_MATCH(DMI_SYS_VENDOR, "ASUS"),
    +			DMI_MATCH(DMI_BOARD_NAME, "B9406CAA"),
    +		},
    +		.driver_data = (void *)ghost_realtek,
    +	},

    matching

    q66@asusbook: /home/q66/cports$ cat /sys/devices/virtual/dmi/id/board_name
    B9406CAA
    q66@asusbook: /home/q66/cports$ cat /sys/devices/virtual/dmi/id/sys_vendor

    Yeah that is the correct fix. I will send the extra quirk upstream, unless you know if someone from that/your end is going to do so?

    the other quirks are currently not in 7.1 stable either, despite the topology switch having happened, so this is probably broken in exactly the same way in 7.1 for the laptops that already have the quirk in torvalds/linux

    Thanks yeah should probably make sure that patch is forwarded to stable, I will have a look at that as well. Although most of the other laptops on those quirks had a bunch of other problems so the change wasn't really a regression in those cases as much as it was just an extra reason they didn't work :-)
