App only checks email-login vs. first/primary roundcube imap/smtp settings #66

Hello,

maybe it's not a bug or an unintended behaviour but then a feature request ;-)

Situation:

  • First, I' m using roundcube webmail roundcube/roundcubemail:1.6.15-apache
  • with config which allows users on the normal roundcube login page to log in against several email providers

/roundcube/www/config/config.inc.php:
`

$config['imap_host'] = [
'ssl://posteo.de:993' => 'posteo.de',
'ssl://imap.gmail.com' => 'Gmail',
'ssl://imap.web.de' => 'WEB.DE',
'ssl://imap.gmx.net:993' => 'GMX',
'ssl://mx.freenet.de' => 'freenet.de',
'ssl://outlook.office365.com' => 'Outlook.com',
'ssl://imap.mail.me.com' => 'iCloud',
'ssl://imap.netcologne.de' => 'NetCologne',
'ssl://secureimap.t-online.de' => 't-online.de',
'ssl://imap.mail.yahoo.com' => 'Yahoo!',
'ssl://imap.mail.de' => 'mail.de',
'ssl://imap.1und1.de' => '1&1',
];

$config['smtp_host'] = [
'posteo.de' => 'tls://posteo.de:587',
'imap.gmail.com' => 'tls://smtp.gmail.com',
'imap.web.de' => 'tls://smtp.web.de',
'imap.gmx.net' => 'tls://mail.gmx.net:587',
'mx.freenet.de' => 'tls://mx.freenet.de',
'outlook.office365.com' => 'tls://smtp-mail.outlook.com',
'imap.mail.me.com' => 'tls://smtp.mail.me.com',
'imap.netcologne.de' => 'tls://smtp.netcologne.de',
'secureimap.t-online.de' => 'tls://securesmtp.t-online.de',
'imap.mail.yahoo.com' => 'tls://smtp.mail.yahoo.com',
'imap.mail.de' => 'tls://smtp.mail.de',
'imap.1und1.de' => 'tls://smtp.1und1.de',
];

`

In this case, posteo.de is the first email provider in the array.

  • Second, I'm using mail_roundcube: 1.2.2 and there I configure (as user in user settings) email credentials (e.g. an email-address from gmx.de or gmx.net)

Behaviour
When I load the roundcube App in Nextcloud I got an error saying:

RoundCube Wrapper for Nextcloud
Unable to login into Roundcube, there are login errors. Please check your personal Roundcube settings. Maybe a re-login to Nextcloud
helps. Otherwise contact your system administrator.

In the roundcube logs itself I found:

errors: <6b021d5f> IMAP Error: Login failed for somename@gmx.de against posteo.de from 172.20.0.1 (X-Forwarded-For: FANCY_IP_ADDRESS).
AUTHENTICATE PLAIN: Authentication failed. in /var/www/html/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube_imap.php on line 211 (POST /?
_task=login&_action=login)

which indicates that the nextcloud roundcube app tries only to use the first email provider settings from the config file and not the appropriate one.

Could this be improved in the way, that the app tries to find the correct email provider settings in the roundcube settings and authenticate with the correct ones? Or maybe that users can configure additional imap/smtp settings in the roundcube app which are also passed to the roundcube webmailer? This would be great and would improve the app highly.

Otherwise all Nextcloud Users can only use this mail app only with one and the same email provider.

Thanks in advance!

    Actually the app just tries to login with the configured (or detected) email address and the configured or NC password, but there is no selection of the email provider configured in Roundcube.

    Of course, this app uses "manufactured" post requests to submit the login form. If the login form received by RC already contains additional settings besides the email-address / email-user and password then their might be a problem. Can't RC preselect the appropriate provider if the login-name contains the domain part? Your RC config snippet above suggests that this might be the case ...
