docs: add the Supported versions page for Prisma ORM 8 - #8572
Merged

Conversation
One page states every floor: Node.js 22.18, 24.11, or 26, Bun 1.3, Deno 2.6 (experimental), PostgreSQL 15, MongoDB 8.0, TypeScript 5.9, the tsconfig settings orm init writes, ES modules only, and the Temporal polyfill on runtimes without Temporal. Every number is checked against the package that declares it. The Bun guide said 1.1 where create-prisma refuses anything below 1.3. Release status, Supported databases, and the eight quickstart and starting-point pages link the new page. The orm init page now says type: module is added only when package.json lists no dependencies yet, and that node is added to types, which is what the init source does. the ---Reference--- separator in meta.json, keeping it out of the preceding

Review comments at @apps/docs/content/docs/orm/supported-versions.mdx:
- Line 60: Update the server-version check command in the supported-versions
documentation to use a PostgreSQL/libpq-compatible connection URL, rather than a
Prisma DATABASE_URL that may include the unsupported schema parameter.
- Around line 27-30: Update the Temporal setup guidance to explain that
TypeScript contracts using fixed Temporal date or time defaults also need
Temporal initialized when the CLI loads them during contract emission; clarify
that importing the polyfill in the generated client file alone does not cover
the separate emission process.
- Line 21: Update the Temporal runtime guidance in the supported-versions
section to tell readers to check availability with `node -p "typeof Temporal"`
and load the polyfill when the result is `undefined`, regardless of Node.js
version. Keep the existing runtime-specific guidance for other environments.

Review comments at @apps/docs/content/docs/orm/supported-versions.mdx:
- Line 21: Update the Temporal availability guidance in the supported-versions
documentation to tell readers to evaluate typeof Temporal in the runtime that
runs their application, rather than relying on the Node.js-only probe for Bun or
Deno.
- Line 21: Update the Temporal availability guidance in the supported-versions
section to distinguish minimum supported runtime versions from releases that
provide Temporal: identify Bun 1.3 and Deno 2.6 as minimums, Bun 1.4 and Deno
2.7 as Temporal availability thresholds, and Node.js 26.0.0 as the default
availability threshold. Keep 26.8.2 only if clearly labeled as a Prisma
compatibility floor.
- Line 33: Update the `RUNTIME.TEMPORAL_UNAVAILABLE` claim in the
supported-versions documentation to scope the error to reading a Temporal-backed
`DateTime` field or using a mutation default that must generate a Temporal
value; do not imply that encoding an existing `Temporal` value triggers it.

#8572 replaced the Prisma ORM sidebar with an old layout: it dropped Editor setup, moved create-prisma, and listed from-scratch and add-to-existing-project, which the Quickstart group hides. This puts back main's order from before #8572, with Supported versions and A database on your machine added. Before, a reader on Bun who followed the Bun guide saw this prerequisite:
and then
bun create prisma@latestrefused to run, because create-prisma declares"bun": ">=1.3.0". The PostgreSQL floor was on no page at all, and the TypeScript floor was on Release status only. After, one page states every floor:
The decision
A new page, Supported versions, in the ORM sidebar's Introduction after Supported databases and linked from the Getting started sidebar. It states the runtime, database, and TypeScript floors, the
tsconfig.jsonsettingsorm initwrites, that every package is ES modules only, and thetemporal-polyfillrequirement on Node.js 22 and 24. It ends with how to check your own versions and the date the numbers were checked. This is item C18 of the docs audit, decided on 2026-09-28; the spec isdocs/orm-docs-audit/slices/07-supported-versions/spec.mdon the audit branch.Every number is checked against where it is declared, on 2026-10-22:

"Experimental" is the label Will chose.prismaNext.minServerVersionin the two target packages in prisma/orm.typescriptpeer dependency withoptional: trueon@prisma/orm-postgres,-mongo, and-sqliteat 8.0.0-rc.19, andMIN_TYPESCRIPT_PEERin prisma/orm'sscripts/validate-typescript-peer.mjs.mongodb7 andtemporal-polyfill: the peer dependencies of@prisma/orm-mongoand@prisma/orm-postgres.tsconfig.json: the templateorm initwrites,cli/src/commands/init/templates/tsconfig.tsin prisma/orm.prisma/orm's own
docs/Supported Versions.mdis out of date on three of these (Node.js 24, Bun 1.2, Deno 2.0) and documents a--merge-tsconfigflag that does not exist in the CLI, so nothing on the page comes from it.Other pages changed
orm initpage said"type": "module"is added wheneverpackage.jsonhas no"type"field. The init source leaves the field alone, with a warning, when the file already listsdependencies, and it also addsnodetotypesintsconfig.json. Both sentences now say what the source does. The fact check found this while confirming the new page's own sentence about it.DateTimefield is still aDate; only PostgreSQL usesTemporal.Instant. The page says so, and the polyfill section is scoped to PostgreSQL.How it was checked
The reader-review skill's three scripts and cspell pass on the page;
lint:linksandlint:versionspass. Two cold reader rounds with the Prisma ORM 7 reader persona, then a fact re-check of every number against the list above.Alternatives considered
docs/Supported Versions.md. Rejected: three of its numbers are wrong and one flag it documents does not exist.Agent: seacole-52
