sink: stop discarding DML based on schema versions for storage sink - #6659
Dispatchers replicating different spans of the same table can have different start timestamps after scheduling or recovery. Since TableInfoVersion can include the dispatcher’s start timestamp, a higher schema file version does not establish that another dispatcher’s DML has already been persisted.
Previously, the cloud storage sink could discard valid DML after finding a higher-version schema file with the same checksum, while still executing its flush callbacks.
This PR restores the schema reuse behavior of the old architecture, before #1943:
Remove hasNewerSchemaVersion from CheckOrWriteSchema and remove the corresponding DML discard branch and unused helper from the writer.
Reuse an existing schema file with the same checksum, regardless of whether its version is older or newer than the incoming version. CheckOrWriteSchema returns the effective schema version and an error.
Write DML and index files using the effective schema version through the normal persistence path before executing flush callbacks. Schema files retain the existing schema__.json format.

Questions
Will it cause performance regression or break compatibility?
This change introduces a new schema filename format. Updated consumers can read legacy files, but older consumers cannot recognize the new filenames.
Older TiCDC writers can interpret the version and checksum in new filenames as table-wide metadata and still discard valid DML. Upgrading the consumer alone does not make mixed-version writer deployments safe.
New dispatcher IDs created by split or merge operations can produce additional schema files. The retained version check does not provide exactly-once DML output or eliminate replay after recovery.
Do you need to update user documentation, design documentation or monitoring documentation?

Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Improved cloud storage handling of DML records when schema versions differ across nodes, including correct placement of data and index files.
With table-across-nodes enabled, older DML is processed using the effective schema rather than incorrectly marked stale; stale-data detection remains unchanged when the setting is disabled.
Schema discovery now distinguishes dispatcher-scoped schemas from unscoped legacy schemas, helping prevent unrelated schemas from affecting stale checks or being rediscovered.
Improvements
Improved handling of DDL schemas discovered alongside dispatcher schemas, supporting consistent schema and query retention.

Cloud storage schema files now support dispatcher-scoped names. Schema checks and consumer discovery account for dispatcher scope and legacy DDL schemas. Tests cover schema selection, file discovery, and split-span DML persistence when start timestamps differ.

Schema filenames and generated paths can include a dispatcher ID. Schema checks compare candidate files within the applicable dispatcher scope. Path parsing and tests cover scoped and unscoped names.
The consumer parses dispatcher-scoped schema metadata and handles DDL schema replacement during discovery. Tests cover schema ordering and discovery of DDL schemas, dispatcher schemas, and data files.
Split-span validation and startup downstreamadapter/sink/cloudstorage/writer_test.go, cmd/storage-consumer/main.go
Writer tests check persisted data and index files for equal and differing schema-version timestamps. Consumer initialization moves from package initialization into main.
The change scopes cloud storage schema files per dispatcher and updates the consumer to recognize both filename formats. No concrete merge-blocking risk was found.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 42dc1
The change restores persistence for split-table streams without changing storage destinations or file formats. No new privilege gain or externally reachable operation was identified. The behavior applies to every table in enabled streams, while concurrent recovery and replay remain incompletely verified.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The changed outcome is additional persistence of already-delivered DML for all tables using an enabled sink, including singleton tables. The inspected change does not select a new storage destination or grant credentials. An attacker-controlled route to cross-tenant or cross-service storage was not established by this evidence.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The newly accepted path still requires a same-checksum schema match for version reuse and retains routed schema/table selection and physical-table path inputs. These are existing identity and compatibility mechanisms, not newly added security controls.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — On the persistence path, data writes complete before index publication, and callbacks run only after both succeed. Write-admission, data-write, writer-close, or index-write errors return before callbacks. Existing index resynchronization and collision probing remain available after restart or ownership transfer, but do not establish exactly-once replay or atomic multi-file publication.
