EXP PER TIME
A free farm timer for MapleStory Classic that reads your EXP straight from the screen and tells you exactly how much EXP you make per minute, per hour, and how long until your next level.
English · עברית
Start a timer, keep farming, and get a precise summary when it ends:
- EXP per minute and EXP per hour
- Time to your next level, and how much EXP is left
- The map you farmed, read automatically from the minimap
- Level-ups mid-session are counted correctly
- History of every session, so you can compare maps (also saved as
history.csvfor Excel) - Start and end screenshots kept as proof, plus a manual fix if OCR ever misreads a number
EXPERT finds the MapleStory window, takes a screenshot of it every 10 seconds, and reads two things with on-device OCR (RapidOCR):
- the EXP bar at the bottom of the screen (
EXP. 16,646 [48.50%]) and your level, - the map name in the minimap header.
From the readings it adds up the EXP you gained - including across level-ups - and works out your rates and time to level.
EXPERT only looks at the screen, exactly like a screen recorder or streaming software does. It does not read or modify game memory, inject anything into the game, send keyboard or mouse input, or automate gameplay in any way. Still, it is your responsibility to follow the game's terms of service - see the disclaimer.
- Windows 10 or 11
- MapleStory Classic in windowed or full-screen mode, with the EXP bar visible (open the minimap if you want the map detected - collapsed is fine)
⬇ Download EXPERT.exe - one file, nothing to install. Double-click it and you're done.
Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" the first time, because the app isn't signed
with a paid certificate. Click More info → Run anyway. The exe is built automatically by
GitHub from this source code (build workflow), and every release
lists its SHA256 checksum (EXPERT.exe.sha256).
Your history, screenshots and settings are kept in %LOCALAPPDATA%\EXPERT.
To uninstall, delete EXPERT.exe and that folder.
For developers, or if you prefer not to run an exe. Needs Python 3.11 or 3.12.
- Download
Source code (zip)from Releases and extract it, orgit clone https://github.com/oryanzz/EXPERT.git. - Double-click
setup.bat. It creates a private Python environment, installs the dependencies and adds an EXPERT shortcut to your desktop. No Python yet? Runwinget install Python.Python.3.12and runsetup.batagain. - Start EXPERT from the desktop shortcut (or
run.bat). Data stays in the EXPERT folder.
EXPERT checks GitHub for a new version when it starts. When one is out, a banner appears at the
top of the window - nothing changes until you click Update. Then EXPERT closes,
installs the new version, keeps your history, screenshots, custom sound and settings, and
reopens by itself. (From source you can also run update.bat; a git clone runs git pull.)
On 1.0.0 or 1.0.1 (source)? Those versions don't have the updater yet. Update once by hand: download the latest source zip, extract it over your EXPERT folder and run
setup.bat- or just switch toEXPERT.exe.
EXPERT speaks English and Hebrew. It opens in your Windows language; switch any time with the language link at the bottom of the window. Want another language? Add it to
ui/i18n.js- pull requests are welcome!
- Open the game in windowed mode. EXPERT opens beside it.
- Click Test screen reading to confirm it reads your EXP and map correctly.
- Pick the minutes and press Start timer. You get 3 seconds to switch back to the game.
- While it runs you see a live EXP/min and how much of a level you've gained (e.g. +2.7%). When the time is up you hear a chime and get the summary.
Tips:
- Don't cover the EXP bar with another window - EXPERT skips that reading and tells you.
- Full screen works. EXPERT opens on your second monitor if you have one, otherwise in the top-right corner. Press Start, click back into the game within 3 seconds, and the chime tells you when the summary is ready.
- Compact mode (the shrink button in the title bar) turns EXPERT into a small strip with the timer, EXP/min and one button - made for full screen. It switches on by itself when a timer starts while the game is full screen on the same monitor; the expand button brings the full window back.
- Drag the window by its orange title bar. The pin button keeps it above other windows.
- If a number or the map name was misread, use Fix manually in the summary. A corrected map name is remembered, so the same map is always written the same way.
Put any WAV file at sounds\done.wav - inside %LOCALAPPDATA%\EXPERT for the exe, or the EXPERT
folder when running from source - and EXPERT plays it instead of the built-in chime.
(The original game sounds belong to NEXON, so they are not included - you can record one
for personal use, e.g. with Audacity's Windows WASAPI loopback recording.)
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| "MapleStory isn't open" | Start the game first; EXPERT looks for its window. |
| "Another window is covering the EXP bar" | Move the other window (or EXPERT) off the bottom of the game. |
| "Windows protected your PC" | Click More info → Run anyway (see Install). |
| Black screenshot | Your PC runs the game in exclusive full screen - switch the game to windowed mode. |
| Map not detected | Open the minimap in the game, or type the map in Fix manually. |
| Update failed | The reason is in update.log in the EXPERT folder; you can always update by hand (see Update). |
| Something else | Check app.log in the EXPERT folder and open an issue. |
- Everything stays on your computer: screenshots (
shots\), history (history.csv) and settings, in%LOCALAPPDATA%\EXPERT(exe) or the EXPERT folder (source). EXPERT has no accounts, telemetry, or analytics and uploads nothing. - The only network requests are loading the UI fonts from Google Fonts and, at startup, asking GitHub whether a newer version exists. Nothing about you or your game is sent.
- Screenshots can show other players' names and chat - think twice before sharing them.
