WalkthroughMicroShift adds serving-certificate and CA renewal commands. The commands can validate or prepare renewed material without changing active certificates. Startup validates and activates pending material through recoverable transactions, and certificate status reports active and pending data. ChangesCertificate administration

non-blocking for CLI commands and preserve the existing lock cleanup behavior.

174-182: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winAssert that the CA renewal is pending before changing the SANs.
If
Renewal Documentsucceeds without publishing a pending renewal, startup can follow normal certificate initialization. The unchanged CA digest, new-SAN certificate, and no-pending checks can still pass, so this scenario does not exercise invalidation of a pending renewal after a configuration change.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Discard pending renewals when certificate configuration or active PKI has changed, or prepared certificates have expired. Continue normal certificate initialization while preserving errors for other validation failures and protecting recovery backups. Hash only certificate-affecting configuration and choose the startup certificate loading path from the actual activation result. Wait up to 30 seconds for the startup certificate operation lock while keeping CLI locking non-blocking and preserving existing cleanup. Add regression coverage for stale renewal cleanup, activation results, lock contention and recovery safety. Update user documentation and Robot restart scenarios. Quarantine malformed or incomplete pending renewal metadata at startup and continue normal certificate initialization without forcing CA renewal. Preserve rejected material for diagnosis and keep filesystem, unsupported-version, and interrupted-activation recovery failures fatal. Log rejected renewals clearly and report warnings through certs status in table, JSON, and YAML output. Retain the warning across restarts and replacement preparation, clearing it after successful activation. Add Go regression tests and Robot coverage for corruption fallback, warning persistence, output formats, recovery safety, and replacement activation. Document the fallback and quarantine lifecycle. Co-authored-by: GPT-5 <noreply@openai.com> Signed-off-by: ehila <ehila@redhat.com>
Set a 45-minute timeout for the RHEL 9 and RHEL 10 standard2 scenarios. The added certificate renewal lifecycle tests perform multiple service restarts and exceed the existing 30-minute scenario budget, causing e2e-aws-tests to terminate Robot during teardown and abort the remaining cases. Keep the global timeout and all test assertions unchanged. The shared scenario definitions cover their existing RPM, ostree, and bootc presubmit entry points. Finish stopping a leftover microshift-etcd.scope before startup activates or recovers certificate renewal. Bound the synchronous stop to 30 seconds and verify the scope is stopped, avoiding the restart race seen in e2e-aws-tests. Keep CLI recovery checks non-mutating and preserve startup lock cleanup. Add regression coverage for scope state transitions, failures, timeout handling, and unchanged CLI behavior. Require the CA renewal Robot test to complete without an automatic startup retry. Derive stable pod-template annotations from active public certificates on every startup so directly managed API clients pick up renewed trust and host-mounted kubeconfigs. Keep pending renewal preparation non-disruptive and avoid repeat certificate rollouts when the active material is unchanged. Reconcile OVN before other components, wait for current namespace CA bundles, and bound OVN rollout waits without forcing MicroShift restart loops. Leave customer and operator-owned workloads untouched. Add Go regression tests and Robot checks for preparation, leaf and CA activation, unchanged-certificate restarts, and pod-level API and DNS connectivity. Document rollout scope and maintenance-window impact. Co-authored-by: GPT-5 <noreply@openai.com> Signed-off-by: ehila <ehila@redhat.com>

Fix the e2e-aws-tests-bootc-el9 auto-recovery failure caused by waiting for OVN readiness on ordinary startup with unchanged certificates. Backup restoration completed, but the new rollout wait delayed the service ready notification beyond the recovery test deadline. Wait only when an OVN template or an owned pod uses an older certificate generation. Preserve interrupted-rollout recovery and multi-node handling while allowing unrelated pod readiness problems to reconcile without delaying normal startup. Add unit regression coverage and assert that unchanged-certificate restarts do not enter the rollout wait in the Robot suite. Organize certificate subcommands into a dedicated architecture table and document the transaction layout, validation metadata, and resource refresh behavior for contributors. Add an optional pre-renewal backup procedure, command output examples, explicit result ordering, and focused recovery and clock guidance to the user guide. Inline the single-use flock wrapper while preserving non-blocking locking, error handling, and cleanup. Co-authored-by: GPT-5 <noreply@openai.com> Signed-off-by: ehila <ehila@redhat.com>
Validate configuration before acquiring certificate transaction access and make renewal preparation unconditional. Keep successful pending publication independent of obsolete-stage cleanup failures, while retaining cleanup and error reporting on failed operations. Share the existing automatic rotation deadline calculation between startup and renewal. Reject serving-only renewal when retained CAs are due for rotation, and discard overdue pending generations with a warning before normal startup initialization. Move transaction implementation details into a dedicated contributor document, update user guidance and links, and add focused Go and Robot regression coverage. Co-authored-by: GPT-5 <noreply@openai.com> Signed-off-by: ehila <ehila@redhat.com>
Remove the injected privilege-check callback and factory from certificate command construction. Call shouldRunPrivileged directly from the shared leaf-command pre-run hook, preserving root initialization and structured InsufficientPrivileges errors. Update command tests to exercise the real UID check while keeping output tests independent of runner privileges. Consolidate privilege and root-hook coverage and extend Robot coverage to unprivileged serving renewal. Co-authored-by: GPT-5 <noreply@openai.com> Signed-off-by: ehila <ehila@redhat.com>
