fix(vsphere): scope cluster ID tag lookup by category - #1565
jcpowermac wants to merge 3 commits into
Conversation
Resolve machine cluster-ID tags only from the matching openshift-<cluster-id> category. This avoids attaching an unrelated tag when vCenter contains duplicate tag names across categories. Add a category-aware tag lookup to CachingTagsManager. It caches name lookups by category ID and tag name, validates cached tag identity, and supports tag IDs while enforcing category membership. Cover duplicate-name reconciliation and verify scoped cache hits avoid additional vCenter requests.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Remove the ordering-dependent unqualified lookup assertion.
govmomi v0.53.0 returns the first same-name tag from a list that the simulator builds by iterating a map. Go does not guarantee that the unrelated tag comes first. This assertion can fail even when reconcileTags attaches the correct tag. Remove the precondition and keep the assertions on the attached tag IDs. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Keep GetTagForCategory focused on the name-and-category lookup used for cluster IDs. Remove the unused empty-category fallback and tag-ID handling.
Restore GetTagForCategory support for tag IDs and verify that ID-based lookups only return tags belonging to the requested category. Keep the category-scoped name cache behavior unchanged.

other-categorybefore testing tag-ID rejection.
GetTagForCategoryresolves the category before it checks the tag ID. Becauseother-categoryis not created, the assertion can pass on a missing-category error without checkingCategoryID. Create the category first and check the creation error. The existing scoped-name test does not cover a tag ID from another existing category.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents
