Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Corrected pod restart totals for workloads using native sidecars. Counts now reflect regular containers and sidecars once initialization is complete, and init-container restarts while initialization is still in progress.
    • Fixed initialization status for successfully completed init containers and sidecars that have started. Missing restart counts and pods without status are handled as zero.

Walkthrough

podRestarts now counts restartable init containers alongside regular containers after initialization. While initialization is in progress, it counts init-container restarts. Tests cover native sidecar restart counts in both states.

Changes

Pod restart counting

Layer / File(s) Summary
Restart count logic and tests
frontend/public/module/k8s/pods.ts, frontend/public/module/k8s/__tests__/pods.spec.ts
podRestarts identifies restartable init containers and sums restart counts based on initialization state. Tests cover running sidecars, completed initialization, and sidecars that have not started.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

No functions found in the changed files to evaluate docstring coverage. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 0 functions across 2 files.

Full details: Stable And Deterministic Test Names

Explanation

The pull request adds three Ginkgo/Jest test titles, and each uses a static descriptive string. The titles contain no generated names, timestamps, UUIDs, node or namespace names, IP addresses, dynamic interpolation, or legacy metadata tokens.

Full details: Test Structure And Quality

Explanation

PASS — the changed tests are TypeScript unit tests using Jest-style describe, beforeEach, it, and expect in frontend/public/module/k8s/__tests__/pods.spec.ts. They are not Ginkgo tests and do not create cluster resources or perform cluster waits. The Ginkgo-specific quality check is therefore not applicable.

Full details: Microshift Test Compatibility

Explanation

PASS: The pull request adds TypeScript unit tests in frontend/public/module/k8s/__tests__/pods.spec.ts using lowercase Jest-style describe/it and plain pod fixtures. It does not add Ginkgo e2e tests or reference any OpenShift API, namespace, or MicroShift-unsupported feature covered by this check.

Full details: Single Node Openshift (Sno) Test Compatibility

Explanation

The pull request adds TypeScript unit tests in frontend/public/module/k8s/__tests__/pods.spec.ts using Jest-style describe/it blocks. The tests exercise podRestarts with in-memory pod objects and make no multi-node or HA assumptions. The SNO-specific Ginkgo e2e check is not applicable.

Full details: Topology-Aware Scheduling Compatibility

Explanation

PASS: The pull request changes only frontend/public/module/k8s/pods.ts and its tests. It updates restart-count logic for native sidecars and adds unit tests. It does not add or modify deployment manifests, operator code, controllers, replicas, affinity, topology spread, node selectors, tolerations, or PDBs. Therefore, it introduces no topology-related scheduling constraint.

Full details: Ote Binary Stdout Contract

Explanation

The pull request changes only two TypeScript frontend files: frontend/public/module/k8s/pods.ts and its Jest specification. The diff contains no OTE binary, Go process entry point, suite setup, or stdout write. The check is not applicable.

Full details: Ipv6 And Disconnected Network Test Compatibility

Explanation

The pull request adds Jest unit tests in frontend/public/module/k8s/__tests__/pods.spec.ts, not Ginkgo e2e tests. The changed tests use local pod objects and contain no IPv4 literals, network assumptions, or external connectivity. The compatibility check does not apply.

Full details: No-Weak-Crypto

Explanation

The pull request changes only Kubernetes pod restart logic and tests in pods.ts and pods.spec.ts. The diff adds no cryptographic algorithms, crypto APIs, secret/token comparisons, or custom crypto implementations.

Full details: Container-Privileges

Explanation

The pull request changes only frontend/public/module/k8s/pods.ts and its test file. The diff adds restart-count logic and test pod objects, but it adds no container or Kubernetes manifest fields such as privileged, hostPID, hostNetwork, hostIPC, SYS_ADMIN, root execution settings, or allowPrivilegeEscalation.

Full details: No-Sensitive-Data-In-Logs

Explanation

The pull request adds restart-count calculation and unit tests only. The changed code contains no logging or output statements, and the test data uses generic container names and timestamps. No sensitive data can be exposed through logs by these changes.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description states the root cause and links the Jira issue, but all required template sections remain incomplete, including the solution description, test setup, test cases, browser conformance, additional information, and reviewers or assignees.

Resolution

Complete each required section. Describe the implementation, testing setup, test cases and results, browser conformance, additional information, and reviewers or assignees. Mark applicable browser checkboxes.

Hi @nikitapal-12. Thanks for your PR.

I'm waiting for a openshift member to verify that this patch is reasonable to test. If it is, they should reply with /ok-to-test on its own line. Until that is done, I will not automatically test new commits in this PR, but the usual testing commands by org members will still work.

Regular contributors should join the org to skip this step.

Once the patch is verified, the new status will be reflected by the ok-to-test label.

I understand the commands that are listed here.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Keep app-container restarts after the Pod has initialized.

If a native sidecar stops after initialization, its started value can become false. Line 195 then selects only init-container restarts and hides app-container restarts until the sidecar starts again. For example, sidecar and app restart counts of 2 and 5 produce 2 instead of 7. Check status.conditions for Initialized=True before taking the initializing branch, as Kubernetes printPod does. Keep the current fallback for Pods that do not yet have that condition. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
