error messages from JMRI firmware update #310

Open
JMRI/JMRI
#15524

Description

@balazsracz

The firmware update protocol has a few error codes that are specifically assigned to common errors:

0x1088 Permanent error, invalid arguments.
The firmware data is incompatible with this hardware node.

0x1089 Permanent error, invalid arguments.
The firmware data is invalid or corrupted.'

When JMRI uploads a firmware and these errors are returned, we should make it clear and apparent to the user that the upload failed and that this is the specific problem. For example a popup dialog box.
Currently there is just a small text that shows up in the bottom, and people typically miss it.

There is a third error, which is retriable:

0x2088 Temporary error, Transfer error.
The firmware written has failed checksum.

In this case we could offer a retry button.

    OpenLCB_Java's LoaderClient publishes its result, along with the error code and a status line, via an onDone(..) method in the LoaderStatusReporter that's passed to it.

    That's used in JMRI's jmri.jmrix.openlcb.swing.downloader.LoaderPane class. See line 164 etc. That's probably where a dialog box could be popped.
