bad double quote parsing (appears to be all commands) #144

Open

Description

@jhudsoncedaron

Behold:

D:\>"c:\Program Files\coreutils\bin\printf.exe" %s-%s-%s "a""a" "a""a" "a""a"
a"a aa aa--

If I run this through cygwin the expected output appears:

D:\>"c:\cygwin64\bin\printf.exe" %s-%s-%s "a""a" "a""a" "a""a"
a"a-a"a-a"a

So far I've tried this with printf, echo, and xargs but I think all commands are affected.

What I'm trying to do: find | xargs sed -i where the replacement string contains double quote characters.

    Oh, you already deduced that this is a bug in wild. Well done! For the curious: https://gitlab.com/kornelski/wild/-/work_items/9

    There's not much I can do here unless sed is brought into the fold (fixing this nonsense requires a coordinated change and right now sed is a different project altogether) -- which may or may not happen.

    I would not have otherwise considered adding sed; but ultimately sed is the driver here, the real use case for non-filename crazy strings.
