MAUI Entry Gains Focus Automatically When Placed Inside ScrollView on Windows #31039

Closed

Description

@Kamalesh-Periyasamy

Description

On the Windows platform, when an Entry control is placed within a ScrollView, it unexpectedly receives focus during page initialization or click on another Entry that has InputTransparent true—even if no explicit focus is set. This triggers Focused event handlers prematurely, resulting in unintended side effects for apps that rely on focus-based actions such as validation, animations, or navigation logic.

This issue disrupts expected user interaction flow and may lead to inconsistent behavior across platforms.

Expected Behavior: The Entry should remain unfocused unless explicitly directed, ensuring consistent interaction and event triggering across platforms.

Actual Behavior: The Entry receives focus automatically, triggering Focused events and potentially executing logic prematurely.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Use the sample provided below, which contains multiple Entry controls placed within a ScrollView.
  2. Run the application on the Windows platform.
  3. Tap or click on an Entry control that has InputTransparent="True".
  4. Observe that the focus automatically shifts to the first available or focus-enabled Entry

    this has been an issue for a very long time.
    they seem uninterested in fixing it, and it absolutely kills the feasibility of windows apps.

    @MitchBomcanhao

    Getting updates on these bugs is giving me unnecessary stress. I know nobody is fixing these. But somehow there is the remote chance that each notification comes with a "hey I found how to fix it" inside. It's windows. Nobody cares. Especially not Microsoft. Unsubscribe.

    Thank you for the report and the investigation details. We are closing this as completed: the Windows ScrollView focus correction prevents the reported startup and InputTransparent-click autofocus while preserving ordinary Entry pointer and keyboard focus.

    Supporting evidence: #37428 (merged into inflight/current).

    This records the merged source change; it does not imply that the fix is present in every released .NET MAUI package.

    If you can still reproduce the reported behavior in a build that includes the linked change, please comment here with the exact version and reproduction details so we can reopen and investigate. The existing reproduction and discussion remain available; a new issue is not required.
