Description

Adds Reveal to @clerk/mosaic: <Reveal open={boolean} xstyle?>{children}</Reveal> shows and hides its children by animating a grid row between 0fr and 1fr, with no measuring.

It bundles what hand-rolled reveals in Mosaic each re-solve:

  • Mounts and unmounts children around the transition with useTransition.
  • No entrance when it mounts already open (the hasBeenClosed ref used by Collapsible.Panel and Tabs.Panel).
  • Holds the last children while closing (Freeze) and makes them inert (inertProps).
  • Root carries .cl-reveal; the clip layer spans into the implicit second row and anchors content to the moving edge, per docs/motion.md. Under prefers-reduced-motion it snaps.

A closed Reveal takes no space, so spacing goes inside the revealed content rather than on the parent; the swingset page says so.

Card.Banner is not moved onto Reveal in this PR: its surface scales and fades off the same transition attributes, which Reveal does not expose to its children.

Also exports Reveal from src/styles/index.ts and adds a wip swingset page.

📝 Walkthrough

Adds and exports a Reveal component with open-state mounting, closing transitions, and reduced-motion styles. Adds tests for rendering, transitions, refs, and styling. Adds a toggleable story and component documentation.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to af854

A Reveal using a custom render element can leave content present and interactive while closed. Fix that path before merging; the discarded-render animation glitch is narrower.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Record a close only after it commits.

If React discards a render with open={false}, this write still changes hasBeenClosed.current. If the initial open transition is still starting, the next open render can apply data-starting-style and briefly collapse content that was already visible. Move the close-history update to an effect so discarded renders cannot change it. React documents that ref writes during render are unpredictable. (react.dev)

🧰 Tools
🪛 React Doctor (0.9.14)

[error] 24-24: This ref is mutated during render. React can replay or discard render work, so the mutation can leak from UI that never commits.

Move ref writes into an event handler or effect. Render must stay pure because React can replay or discard it. The predictable null-guarded lazy initialization pattern remains supported.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Keep the controlled children when render supplies an element.

If a caller passes render={<section>Other content</section>}, useRender merges that element’s children over the computed children. The element then replaces Reveal’s clip layer. Its content remains mounted and is not made inert when open={false}. Preserve the clip layer as the root’s children when cloning a supplied element, or reject elements that supply children. The useRender merge gives the supplied element’s props precedence. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
