How to synchronize the local repository to GitHub regularly? #903
I don't know how to synchronize the local repository to GitHub regularly. Maybe I don't know how to use it, or maybe I don't have this function. If it's the latter, I hope to achieve it.
I know I can achieve it by configuring launchd in the mac system. Because that's what I'm doing now.
But this is not convenient, and when I don't open the warehouse file, I regularly scan the warehouse and try to submit it to the remote, which is an unnecessary resource expense.
Thanks for the question! ZenNotes has no built-in Git sync today, so your launchd job is the right tool for now. Two things that may help:
If the goal is having your notes on every device, ZenNotes Cloud (Settings → Cloud) syncs the vault in the background and keeps backups, with no Git setup.
To keep the launchd job cheap, have the script exit before committing when nothing changed:
git status --porcelain takes milliseconds on a notes vault, so running it every few minutes costs almost nothing, and the commit and push only happen when there is something to send.
I'm keeping this open as a feature request for Git sync built into the app.
Thank you for your script, but considering that the step of git push may fail, there is a follow-up measure, so we can't judge whether to perform the follow-up operation just by the result of git status --porcelain, so I'm here every time I will try to push.
At the same time, thank you for your serious reply. I look forward to building in such a function in the future.
