Summary

Extend PR #802 so LGND results remain useful across consecutive chats and resolution-search follow-ups, and enforce the requested three-result contract end to end.

Technical analysis

LGND tool results are already handed to the next step of the same AI SDK streamText tool loop and persisted as named JSON tool messages in the chat backend. The follow-up route excludes bulky result messages and limits ordinary conversational input to the latest ten messages, however, so earlier chip/result facts could disappear from later turns even while they remained stored. The new bounded context extractor scans the full persisted AI state and injects metadata-only LGND and resolution-search context into both regular follow-ups and new resolution-image analyses. This supports references after multiple consecutive turns and after saved-chat reload without duplicating data into another table.

Changes

  • Always request top_k: 3 from LGND (including geometry-retry requests); the tool schema requires exactly three and the structured response contains no more than the first three actual API matches. If LGND itself returns fewer than three, the implementation preserves the actual available count rather than fabricating results.
  • Pass the bounded result JSON to the model's next tool-generation step and persist all available chips in the chat result. Thumbnail-URL failures do not discard API chip metadata.
  • Reconstruct at most eight recent LGND/resolution result records in a 9,000-character context budget for every ordinary follow-up and resolution-image analysis. Include IDs, query/location, collection, date, score, centroid, analysis summary and applicable feature/coordinate metadata; omit image bytes, signed thumbnail URLs, full raw payloads, and polygon coordinate arrays.
  • Preserve AOI/map restoration and exact coordinate fly-to behavior from the original PR; align the result-map adapter to the same three-chip cap.
  • Add regression tests for top-k enforcement, API responses containing more than three chips, all-three-chip context without thumbnails, older-than-window results, resolution outputs, and malformed payloads.

Verification

  • Unit suite: 30 passed, 0 failed.
  • Focused TypeScript checking for the changed app action, agents, LGND tool/schema and context/map utilities: passed.
  • Targeted ESLint: passed with no errors.
  • ENCRYPTION_KEY=qcx-build-only-test-key npx next build: passed, including optimized compilation, Next lint/type validation, page-data collection and all 19 static pages. The temporary key was used only to satisfy the local import-time encryption guard.
  • No live LGND API request or production credential was used; LGND behavior is covered by mocked responses.

See docs/LGND_API_INTEGRATION_REVIEW.md for the detailed data flow and persistence analysis.

Walkthrough

Location embedding searches now submit resolved AOI geometry when available and return map-ready data. The chat UI merges this data into shared map state, and Mapbox and Google map components render markers and support navigation to selected locations.

Changes

Location embeddings to map

Layer / File(s) Summary
AOI search request and response
lib/agents/tools/location-embeddings.tsx, tests-unit/location-embeddings.test.ts
Location searches send resolved geometry when available and retry geometry-bounds errors without the geometry constraint. Successful results include AOI and search geometry. Tests cover requests, retries, and returned AOI data.
Map data contract and response conversion
components/map/map-data-context.tsx, lib/utils/location-embeddings-map.ts, tests-unit/location-embeddings-map.test.ts
Map state supports identified markers, target geometry, and GeoJSON features. The response converter validates coordinates and geometry, builds features and markers for up to three results, and selects a target position and geometry. Tests cover target selection and invalid inputs.
Streamed results and map state
components/chat.tsx, components/location-embeddings-section.tsx, docs/LGND_API_INTEGRATION_REVIEW.md
The chat UI merges parsed result data into map state and adds buttons for results with matching markers. The map provider uses the chat ID as its key. The review document describes the request, persistence, restoration, and verification flow.
Map marker rendering and navigation
components/map/google-map.tsx, components/map/map-3d-types.ts, components/map/map-3d.tsx, components/map/mapbox-map.tsx
Mapbox renders persisted features and markers, and navigates to target geometry or coordinates. Google 3D renders clickable markers. Google Maps prioritizes target-position camera options over camera state.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to bfd0f

Map navigation can stop working in reduced-motion mode, and reopened chats can show missing pins or the wrong location. Fix these behaviors before merging; also isolate the new tests and correct the navigation documentation.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to bfd0f

Saved searches can now be restored and displayed on the map. The checked paths preserve chat access controls and use text-based label rendering. No new security failure was established, but complete exposure coverage remains unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The newly assessed exposure is search content rendered in the viewing user's browser and restored through authorized chat loading. The geometry fallback can widen spatial search results within the selected collection, but does not select a different tenant, collection, or credential.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • observed — Payload-derived marker titles and details reach Mapbox through DOM text properties and Popup.setText, not an application HTML-string sink. Google Maps 3D receives a label string and title attribute. The examined rendering paths do not establish a new content-to-script attack path.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — External result geometry passes through the map adapter's coordinate checks before contributing to map state. Both chat layouts now key their map provider by chat ID, and a newly mounted provider starts with empty marker and feature arrays, containing aggregate state across the inspected chat-ID transitions.

616-634: 🎯 Functional Correctness

The claim that this component switches styles is unsupported. The map uses a fixed initial style, and no repository-owned Mapbox style-replacement path was found. The overlay effect’s lack of a style.load listener does not establish the claimed failure without a reachable style change.

Consume targetPosition after navigation.

GoogleMapComponent gives targetPosition precedence over cameraState. Map3D updates cameraState without clearing targetPosition. When the map remounts, the target is applied again and the saved camera view is ignored.

Keep the target-first precedence for initial navigation, but consume targetPosition after the navigation camera change. Preserve any separately selected location state needed by calendar tagging.

Mapbox GL JS fitBounds camera unchanged moveend event easeTo no camera change contract

💡 Result:

**Short answer:** Mapbox GL JS does **not** document a guarantee that `fitBounds()` or `easeTo()` will emit—or suppress—`moveend` when the resulting camera is unchanged.

The docs define `moveend` as firing when a pan/movement completes, and `fitBounds()` as fitting the viewport to given bounds; they don’t specify no-op behavior. ([docs.mapbox.com](https://docs.mapbox.com/mapbox-gl-js/guides/user-interactions/gestures/?utm_source=openai)) A historical report against **v0.44.1** says `fitBounds()` triggered `moveend`, but that is not evidence of current behavior or a stable API contract. (GitHub issue 6405 in mapbox/mapbox-gl-js (link omitted to avoid creating a cross-reference))

So, if your code depends on no-op calls not firing `moveend`, treat that as **unresolved/version-dependent**, not a contract. For reliable handling, compare the camera before and after the call, or track your own programmatic-move state.

github mapbox-gl-js v3.11.0 src/ui/camera.ts easeTo unchanged camera moveend event no change

💡 Result:

In **Mapbox GL JS v3.11.0**, `easeTo()` does **not** first check whether the requested camera state differs from the current state. It proceeds through the ease setup, so calling it with an unchanged target can still emit movement events, including `moveend`. The source documents `moveend` for the animated camera methods; it doesn’t promise that the camera must have changed for the event to fire. ([raw.githubusercontent.com](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-js/v3.11.0/src/ui/camera.ts))

If you only want to react to actual camera changes, compare the relevant camera values before calling `easeTo()` or inside your `moveend` handler. This is an inference from the implementation, not a stated API guarantee. ([raw.githubusercontent.com](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-js/v3.11.0/src/ui/camera.ts))

🌐 Web query:

Mapbox GL JS v3.26.0 camera.ts easeTo unchanged camera moveend fitBounds source

💡 Result:

In **Mapbox GL JS v3.26.0**, `camera.ts` is the relevant source:

- **`easeTo` and omitted camera fields:** [camera.ts at v3.26.0](https://github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-js/blob/v3.26.0/src/ui/camera.ts). The method builds its destination from the supplied options and current camera state; omitted camera properties retain their current values.
- **`moveend`:** The same file’s `easeTo` animation path fires the ending movement event when the transition completes. A zero-duration or otherwise immediate transition follows the immediate-completion path.
- **`fitBounds`:** `fitBounds` calculates a camera placement, then `_fitInternal` chooses `easeTo` when `linear: true`, otherwise `flyTo`. So `fitBounds` does not necessarily use `easeTo`. ([github.com](https://github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-js/blob/v3.26.0/src/ui/camera.ts))

“Unchanged” can mean either that **unspecified camera options stay unchanged** or that **the v3.26.0 implementation matches another version**. The source establishes the former; a version-to-version unchanged claim would require comparing against the other version or commit. ([github.com](https://github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-js/blob/v3.26.0/src/ui/camera.ts))

Register moveend before calling fitBounds.

When reduced-motion mode is active, Mapbox fitBounds delegates to flyTo, which synchronously delegates to jumpTo. jumpTo fires moveend before the current once handler is registered. The flag can then remain true, blocking later programmatic navigation and rotation.

Register the one-time `moveend` handler before calling `fitBounds` so it catches

Update shared target state for geometry-less marker clicks.

The LGND search marker has no geometry. Its click handler moves the camera but leaves the previous targetPosition and targetGeometry in shared state. Switching map providers or remounting the map can then restore the previous AOI instead of the selected pin.

## Changes

- Add a pure payload-to-map adapter that validates latitude/longitude ranges, interprets GeoJSON centroid order as `[longitude, latitude]`, and emits stable IDs for the search-location marker and up to three chip-result markers.
- On initial and replayed result rendering, merge these markers into the map context and set the map target to the exact search coordinate. If no search coordinate is present, use the first valid result centroid as the fly-to target.

Scope LGND chip IDs to each tool response.

When separate LocationEmbeddingsSection instances process results with the same chip ID—or the same index-based fallback ID—the later result replaces the earlier marker and, when both have geometry, the earlier feature. Include a unique tool-result scope in each chip ID so both responses remain in map state.
