The official rules for the Universe 2026 attendee sweepstakes (docs/Universe-2026-GEC-Attendee-Sweepstakes.md in this repo) say it's "Void in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, Region of Crimea, Russia, and where otherwise prohibited by law."
Syria shouldn't be on that list anymore. The US ended the Syria sanctions program on July 1, 2025 (EO 14312), OFAC removed the Syrian Sanctions Regulations in August 2025, and Syria came off the State Sponsors of Terrorism list in August 2026. GitHub's trade controls page has already dropped Syria from its sanctioned regions.
I opened #210029 with the one-word change, but it was closed automatically because this repo doesn't take outside PRs. @queenofcorgis, could you pass this to whoever owns the sweepstakes rules? The sweepstakes runs October 28 to 29.
